Just throwing a little more dirt into the muddy water.

If a company pays for, in effect, provides a device for you to use, they can stipulate what you use, and if they don't, they can ask you to use an app, but they can't force it.

My company pays a set amount per month and expects a check in when running and to use your phone for calls as needed, not having a phone to use is a big problem, but they pay us to have one, I have 2 now.

Email by Peoplenet didn't work in real time, and texts(or even voice) are also subject to miscues(voice) and delayed delivery(texts).

Never had the aggravation of Qcomm, and there is nothing hanging from a mount attached to the dash or hooked to the ECM, darn thing has enough trouble as it is. At least, I can't attribute a breakdown to electronic interference, come to think of it, the only trucks I have driven that stopped along road for not readily apparent reasons had Peoplenet units, but not even for elogs.

Sounds like your company is doing it the right way. They are paying for it. It's also smart to separate personal and company business because in the real world we don't get to be Hillary and decide what gets looked at and what doesn't. Once you start using a device for company business the company has the right to search and review that device for policy compliance. If you don't want your boss reading your emails to your wife a separate device is a must.

Especially if you work for Wal-Mart, and they want to pull phone records.

    I respectfully disagree...

I have been at places that have reimbursed me for the use of my personal devices and at companies that didn't reimburse me.... Neither of those companies have any right to expect to access anything about my phone... If they want that, then yes, I do agree that they need to provide the equipment. But just because I use it as a phone for company usage or opt to scan BOLs with it or other wise communicate information to or from the company does not mean that they have carte blanche for everything on my phone.

Now, on the other hand, my wife works for a company that do have such expectations and if you want to use you personal phone then there are a few security apps and expectations of how to use your phone (i.e. Changing passwords, etc) but you sign off on that if you opt to do so. But even then, that does not give them access to our personal emails.

So she opts to juggle two separate phones.

Oh, and I totally agree with the Hillary comment... Any other workers in the State Department would already be charged and possibly sitting behind bars too.

    Stay Safe,

That has nothing to do with who provides the phone or how it's being used. They simply have a no phone use or limited phone use policy.

And I bet you sign off on that as a condition of employment too. And only going after those breaking their policy which they should be able to document via the in cab cameras.

So, ya, why would they need phone records?

Ok, got me wondering now too... lol

How many of you jumped at the chance to "save 20%" on your cell phone bill just because you happen to be employed by a large enough company that a cell phone company has offered a discount? Did you read the fine print? If you signed up for such a deal, you've probably already provided written authorization to your cell provider to allow your employer to have access to your cell records.
