those will often times have strings attached also, it helps some if you have an idea what division you want, reefer, flatbed, tanker the last 2 will pay the best, but will be better to have twic and haz mat to really get the better money position.

think smaller rather than larger if possible and don't go with the usual suspects. not sure about your school but check into Epes and see if it's on their list. they do us good. you're in the hiring area and they have a regional op running out of Atlanta as well......only about 800 trucks and the difference between that and a 20,000 truck company makes all the difference in the world. hazmat not required, but if you get it there's a bonus to run it and they reimburse for getting it. good miles, above average pay for newbies, nice bonus to run north of DC, good, well maintained equipment, home every week, very family oriented and work with us if we need anything as far as scheduling, all around a good place to be I have no real complaints. it isn't perfect and no company is, but the issues we deal here are small and manageable and it's not like being at a huge company where you're nothing more than a truck number..... I cleared 43k first year and tracking much better than that with 2 years in next month. check them out. if you have specific questions PM me i'll be glad to answer. think out of the box and look around and see what's around you and don't go the same path as the sheep take the scenic route and you may just find a jewel of a company. the better ones don't show up at school recruiting. they don't have to.

Thats definitely the info I need. The big places looked suspicious. I'll definitely check Epes out. I thought flatbed but people are warning me off lifting tarps and chains. Been on here all day sifting. Just figured out how to check FMCSA.

flatbeding isn't that bad, tarps can be a pain at times, but customers seem more pleasant

Go to school and be glad you are not going to be tied in to one company. I went to school in atlanta and was interested in some of the major carriers, luckily I got a job with a small 10 truck company and I would not have been able to get this job had I gone with a company that pays for schooling. Also, I make a lot more than those companies pay and am due for a raise after next week and another in two months. While you are in school spend as much time researching companies and talking to drivers. Go to truck stops on the weekends, you will find a lot out about different outfits.

And yes, get all of the endorsements you can!

If your starting off id go with one of the biggest carriers.
But be prepared for being away awhile the first year. Far as which is best .pick the one that sounds the best for you and do not worry to much about reviews Trucker Reviews are like a holes everyone has one.Not everyone will work the same some make it work and make money,some/most are lazy and do not want to do more then they have to.
The first job id keep at least one year then you can sit back and think about what you want to do and start to get away from the bigger companies . -
LandShark Thanks this.

I'm in the middle of a college program now. I have my permit and doubles and triples endorsement already. Just getting a little overwhelmed while researching.
