I am not a trucker but thought I'd start here with my issue. I have to move two large logs of American walnut- approximately 8' (eight feet) tall and 30" in diameter from Ohio to upstate New York. We have no one in Ohio who can help load- so we'd need the logs loaded and trucked and then unloaded in New York.
Where should I start to look? Moving companies? Haulers? Trucking services. I appreciate any advice!

Look in phone book under trucking -common carriers. They should be able to help or send you in right direction.

Well you might want to find a hauling company that has lift cap. on their trls.

Or set it up as a ltl load and have wrecker meet the trk. to load the logs.
At Del. site can you roll them off or just have another wrecker come out and off ld. them.

    Just a thought

Whoa now, nobody in Ohio? Look again, I've seen lots of log haulers in Ohio. Lots of Heavy Wreckers too. Shoot, build a sturdy ramp up to the side of the trailer and roll the logs up with a farm tractor with a front end loader. Lots of ways to do this. Getting em off the trailer? They're logs man, they're round. Roll em off onto the ground and situate em later at your leisure.

But I'd really be interested in what you think would be a fair and honest price for shipping 2 logs from Ohio to NY. No, I won't be "bidding", I'm a tank hauler. Just curious. BTW, I do know why you're going to all this work for 2 logs.:yes2557:

As far as getting the job done I'd be looking at heavy towing companies anyone with a Landoll trailer can do the job (the trailer tilts down and has a winch so they could skid them up onto the deck and then they could use some kind of ramp to roll them off at the destination).

Don't know about price though could get kinda spendy.

You cannot haul hardwood into NY fron any state or they will arrest you. It is due to the quarantine on Ash Beetles.
