Ummmm, that statement isn't even remotely true. There are literally thousands of monitors that have speakers built in.

My laptop has a fairly small screen, so I hooked up a cable to my tv and use the tv monitor as my laptop screen. No reason why you couldn't do the same from tv to monitor.

Tv tuner cards for computers are cheap. Many even come with a remote control. The newer card and usb sticks will be upgraded to HDTV.

There is also a little battery-operated gizmo that plugs into your computer in the headset slot, that will "run" through your radio speakers. You can then hear what you are watching through your radio.

    blown02GT,

I had recently bought an Acer 23" computer monitor and it has speakers ( though they are not real loud, you could probably hear them if the truck is idling).
You could then accept an input to monitor from sat./ant.,etc. and also an input from say a smaller laptop.

Before I started OTR I shopped around on notebook computers. HP had a deal on one of their laptops having a TV card that came with the notebook.

If you are going to hook a computer to the monitor all you need is a TV card for the PC, just make sure it can pickup digital TV signals. (cheap from Newegg) You might wish to pickup a high gain WiFi Antenna, Have a few Drivers (customers) who grab WiFi from hotels near truck stop with a little luck you can watch shows on the net. (like Boxee and Hulu)

I use a 26" computer monitor but it runs through my laptop, and I watch movies and TV through that, and play games! :D I have to run 2 400watt inverters but oh well for speakers I bought a set of Usb speakers[IMG]
They were $80 but worth it, very few wires. Only 2, one USB, and the wire that connects the 2 speakers together. I just lay them down next to the monitor when I start driving. I put all of it on the bed, takes 2 minutes to setup or take down the whole setup. Have great sound, great video, and it makes it a little more like home to be out on the road.

And like others have said a good wifi adapter is a must, I bought an Alfa 2000mw for $49 from rokland.com. A standard Wifi adapter is usually under 100mw. It just helps on your send, if you have a good signal but are sort of far from the building it will help alot. It wont matter if the signal is weak to begin with. Comes with a decent high gain antenna standard.

Actually, yes they do. I have a 46" lcd tv that works perfectly as a monitor. It's higher resolution (1080p) than the lcd on my laptop (1600x900). There's no real difference anymore.
