Get microsoft streets and trips with the gps. It will show you exactly where you are. Great tool for trip planning the night before to, you can see where you will be turning and what the streets look like in the area. Remember though its used as a referance against your trucker atlas and directions from your company.
-
Ditto on Microsoft Streets & Trips. Also, for logging you can use Drivers Daily Log software. Some companies, like Roehl, have certain logs they want you to use but you can use DDL to double check your work.
-
Oh, I also have the Neat Receipts scanner and software to keep track of any expenses.
-
There is a free plugin template for Streets & Trips that incorporates weigh stations, low clearance warnings, truck stops, Walmarts, ect... it is
a free template, but since URLs are discouraged on this board, do a Google search for Largo Software. Once on their site, look on their main
navigation bar for "Map Templates". Not affiliated with the site, but I will be using this once I am out on the road, with my Motor Carrier Atlas. -
Alk Technologies created Pc Miler software and the Co-Pilot program which were specifically created for the trucking industry. The software is kind of expensive but worth it as it does route you on truck approved routes and avoids low underpasses. The C0-Pilot program has a gps module that plugs into a usb port on your laptop and has the capability of giving turn by turn directions as well as spoken commands.
Maps and Trips is very good IF your driving a car. If you use this software be very careful as it does not route you around restricted routes nor low bridges. -
Before investing in mapping software, make sure the company you are looking at doesn't provide your route for you. Granted you have to verify the route, but just keep that in mind.
-
You can do an internet search and check with ALK Technologies directly. Last I knew their co-Pilot program was running about 300 bucks including the gps module. -
