I'm considering a career change. I've been in the restaurant business for 17 yrs. I'm considering trucking because of the money and benefits. Con-Way lured me because they said I could work for them and make money while I'm in my training. Does anybody know what kind of work it is and how much pay is involved? I want a CDL but I can't afford to miss work while in training. Does anybody have any info or advice?

Before you commit to a particular company that will provide "free" training, investigate possible programs through the county or state. Last September, I was ready to sign with Stevens or England, when I discovered a program in my home state of Arizona that paid for the driver school. I chose an independent school although particular companies were available. The bottom line is I now have a CDL, working OTR for a small independent company and NO TUITION to repay.
