You do keep your seniority if you're following freight during a realignment. I've done that 3 times. You generally don't want that to happen though because that means the terminal you're at is either being closed or losing work. I've been through both of those. It does stink in a way that you don't keep it if you transfer without a coo, but I do understand why it is that way. Drivers in a place like Miami or Tampa would get knocked back every year by 20+ year drivers from up here. Credible rumor has it that policy was enacted about a year or two after new terminals in the upper mid-west were opened and all the Chicagoland drivers were transferring up there with no coo but keeping seniority.
Con-Way Freight vs. FedEx Freight for new driver?

like jakebrake said, whenever new terminals opened up, senior guys would transfer and bump the guys who were the senior guys at that terminal and bump them off the gravy runs. Kind of makes sense. But maybe a 3 month stint on the extraboard would work better. hard pill to swallow.

I don't work for either fedex or conway but I do know that averitt express is the same way. We have combo drivers and we do everything that we have to do to get the job done. I normally run a route in the day time and dispatch and load trailers up at night.

Not at FXF. Out city (P&D) drivers don't work the dock. Linehaul does not work the dock if the run is over 230 miles one way. And for runs over 200 it is the drivers choice to work the dock. -
Hey Elendil,i work for a contractor a (24 ft step-van) FedEx Ground and I have my CDL with all the endorsements. I have no otr experience so what are my chances as getting on with Freight?Would they send me to FD Course?

Heading back to Fed Ex myself! Never been so micro managed in my whole career!!! Management with Fed Ex in my opinion.... They treat you like an adult, not a child. I wked for Fed Ex in 4 diff. States in 7 yrs.never had issue , just wanted to try OTR for a change. Mistake..

Yes.....since being with CWTL. They micro manage everything! Maybe it is just my fleet mgr. I am a man, not a boy and from day one! Good luck to you where you decide!

This somewhat surprises me. I would think OTR you would be less micro-managed than if your local. I hear ya on the adult thing. I do not need to be babysat and treated like child. I applied and got the job to work......not to find ways to not work. So simple yet so hard a concept for some to grasp.

Gotta ha, it is a big surprise here too. But, you know as we all know the grass isn't greener on the other side. Glad to be heading hm and back to a company where at least I know what to expect and that my managers know I did my job and did it well for so many years. Just glad I was good enough that they will take me back even I. TI's economy!!! Too old to be treated with out respect!!!
NDBADLANDS Thanks this.
