    This isn't a forgiving job. You do something really stupid in an office & maybe you get fired. You do something really stupid out on the road and maybe you injure or kill someone and find yourself jailed 2000 miles from home.

    Shame shame shame. Sad to hear that but sadly this is the type of drivers Conway has resorted to hiring lately. I know a guy who totaled a truck and they gave him keys to a brand new one. Yet, I talk back to them I get canned go figure. Conway isn't a good company like they used to be. I'm glad they canned me when they did they are headed downhill in a hurry.

    I bet MR.Russel was disgruntled ...

    probably sat East Penn dock for four hours before his appt time ...then 2 hrs later gets his BOL's signed... So No Detention pay ... Then gets asked to go pick up a local load ...

    At age 65 ... He might have just parked it and said F K Conway TL !

    Now Paul, you know that is all speculation. This is too but I've experienced it first hand;

    You run into an issue, it's not really a big deal but for some reason you turn it into a big deal. Now, your thinking goes silly and you decide to do something really stupid. You just turned a small problem into a giant crisis. If you are lucky you can see the process starting early and break the chain. Luck is the wrong word... Smart, experienced... I guess you can pick your own adjective. When you see things going sideways the first thing you need to do is slow down and think it through. I had a good friend that survived the 105mm cannon exploding in the back of his AC-130 over Somalia. The plane is on fire, has a hole in it's left wing and 2 out of 4 engines are gone. The plane can not sustain flight. If the crew had acted without thinking all would have been lost. Steve told me the first thing he did was prioritize what he had left and deal with what he could. Some lives were saved that day, others did not make it home. My finisher, Joe, used to repeat, "don't make big problems out of small problems". I think we all know this but tend to forget it from time to time.

    I had another buddy who was at the finance office trying to get his pay fixed. Military bureaucratic being what it is, he was getting very frustrated. In the heat of the moment, he told the young Airman, "If I did my job as incompetently as you are doing yours, people would die." Vic never minced words and he spoke the truth. There is a lot of responsibility we have accepted in piloting these 80,000 pound trucks around the country. Maybe the compensation is not commensurate with the responsibility but, it is a responsibility we have accepted none the less.

    Jesus, i didn't mean to get on a soap box! Sorry about that! None of this is directed at anyone, I just got to typing...
