It just keeps getting worse, doesn't it? If you guys/and gals get together and protest this, then you can stop it.
You can begin by, say, communicating with one another on the Internet, possibly even this forum. Get the word out.
Perhaps you can all literally not move any freight for one full day and be sure to let Conway know why. Tell them NO cameras... or else.
And don't let them scare you with your job; your sticking together will not only prevent job retaliation but will also give you, the trucker, possible airtime on the mainstream news; let the public know that you are being spied on in your own home (your cab) and that your privacy rights are being violated. Public support is what you need, especially now.
As if things weren't getting bad enough in this industry. -
Don't you worry Joe I'll be the first one out there on that bridge headed to the j with my signs if they indeed do try to put cameras in an otr truck.
I wouldn't care if I were being filmed for local work but no you aren't watching me on off duty time sleeping and do I trust you with that camera. Hell no I don't.
I'm an experienced protester lol been there done that with the fire department.
Really if they would pay me for city pick ups deliveries.
It is completely wrong to send me in a major city rush to pick up ..a 4 hour process... unpaid.
Not leave me sitting and waiting for 6 hrs avg with no communication or response to my Qualcomm msgs.
Fix the booking system
Embarrassing and looks so unprofessional...
Not take over a month to reimburse me
And not hang up on me when I call to ask for my money. Must be nice having that stream of credit from your own employees....backed up my ###.
Not take an hour to answer in the shop
You know how embarrassing it is to listen to Americas premier carrier on speakerphone for an hour is standing at the desk!
And quit trying to make me run illegal in Canada!!!!!!
No I'm not moving freight inter Canada.
Get over it. Its illegal.
Ugh.... I'm starting to rant better stop now.
But yeah Joe one day ppl will have enough.
That day will come. -
I would probably record a video of me in the cab with another camera and put the screen over the trucks camera Lol.
I dont want to be questioned why I drive In a wife beater and boxers with my feet on the passangers seat hahah screw that -
^
#### I'm a whiney ### lol but its how I feel"!!

Reach behind the seat... took care of that now didn't we....
Barefoot driving for that kw clutch

....only when stopping and having to deal with ppl.
A fringe benefit.S M D Thanks this. -
My Freight truck has one. I'm at a terminal that's testing them. Everything the op said is correct. We also have the eobr's installed in in our trucks but they are independent of the camera. The only time I've tripped my camera into record is hooking my front trailer or hooked set - I hit a couple pretty hard that were low and it recorded the previous 8 seconds and the next 4.
I have no idea if tl has the eobr also but here is what it does. They want you to shift at or under 1500 rpm and it records your shifting as a percentage. Not hard to hit high 90's if you're not slamming gears in the yard. It also records speeds over 65, hard brakes, and trip fuel use.
My opinion of the eobr isn't really that bad. I let the overspeed run up to 70 and have been told that is okay. The shift parameters are fine on the flats but absurd if you're trying to accelerate on an uphill ramp to merge on a congested interstate like I do twice per day. I just basically drive and shift the same way I always have and have been told it is fine. That has been told to me directly.
The camera makes me uneasy. I've only tripped my with the impact of hooking so I have not yet been lulled in to view it with "coaches". What I've heard from drivers I know and trust isn't very good but don't feel like I can accurately give insight till I trip it on the road somehow.
At some point I'm sure it will be pretty standard but from the stories I'm hearing it sucks. If you work for Freight imagine what you think they will focus on and you're probably pretty close. -
Ain't so sure 'bout the rest of you but this camera thing concerns me. A lot.
What if, after a long day of driving, I finally decide to hit the sleeper berth with a little "me" time. Then I grab the IPad and log on to "Filthy Grannies.com".
So there I am in my sleeper, doors locked, curtains drawn.
Then, out comes Mr. Wiggly.
Next thing I know, I'm rolling dice in complete ectstacy, oblivious to all around me.
Then, "Bleep"! I get a Quallcom message to return to the shop immediately!
Geez, talk about "slammus interuptus".
"And drop the weapon immediately or you will be tagged as a terrorist, maybe a sex offender, also".
I'm pissed; 'bout the only thing I have left and now they even want to take that!
Screw it! I'm going to China.Last edited: Jul 12, 2013

Protesting this kind of thing AFTER it has been mandated will not work.... refer to changes of HOS... As long as drivers agree with it and even participate in their studies, it will happen in the near future. And then it will be too late... you will have to either accept it or get out of the industry.

1) Have someone take a picture of you from the same angle as the truck cam.
2) Print the picture and put it right in front of the truck cam.
3) When they review the video they'll see you sitting still, eyes front, and hands at 10 and 2 and strangely not moving.
You can change the picture once in a while to keep them on their toes.double yellow Thanks this.
