where I work is a small family owned company. we have 10 employees total; 3 are drivers, 1 is driver, grater, loader, misc, 1 is dispatch or driver (me), 1 mechanic, 1 over-see the disposal well, and the other 3 are boss'. (one the owner, his daughter, and his son-in-law)
I am getting conflicting info on how they boss' want things done. they often leave the misc employee in charge, and his rules are little different from the 3 main sometimes.
I am trying to do a good job for these people, but I cannot figure out which is the proper way to do what they want. I do not know which boss instructions to follow.
I have no clue how to handle this. when I try to ask, I get chewed out and explained I'm stupid. depending on which boss talking to at the time, well get told something to the effect of dont ask/tell the other, do what I say. but small enough company, no way to keep the other from finding out, and I'm in trouble for doing it one boss way and not the other.
I dont know how to approach this, dont know how to deal with, dont know how to sort out the conflict. I am under the understanding now, dont ask anything at all, no matter what I going to be in trouble and chewed out no matter what is done.
any advice? what would you do?
conflict with instructions from Boss'

Whoever is your boss at the time, thats whos orders I would follow. If the other bosses say something, tell them thats the way so and so said to do it so if they have a problem with that, they can talk to him about it. Bosses not being on the same page is not your problem its theirs, they need to set one standard as to how stuff gets done... good luck.

I never worked for families. Their family will always come first even if you are right and they are wrong. I cannot help you as I always avoided working for a whole family.
Logan76 Thanks this. -
I worked for a family before i got my cdl. It can be real difficult at times having 3 bosses (dad n 2 daughters) giving 3 different intructions. I would listen to the dad first as he was the owner then the older daughter. I kinda made the younger one quit when i threatened to do so. I was also the lone delivery driver, forklift op, mechanic, dock supervisor.

How important are the instructions ? Are they minor or major ? In trucking, many decesions are made by you, the driver, far from the office, right ? I would worry more about who signs my paycheck, that's the boss.

Ever thought about working for someone else? I'm the type of person who doesn't put up with being called stupid or hearing "are you stupid or something?". I can handle being yelled at for messing up but I don't tolerate having my intelligence called in to question by anyone, especially for asking a question about something that you receive three different answers for.

My last job was very similar, small family operation. It's a no-win situation. I would suggest finding somewhere else.

thanks y'all.
all 3 are able to sign my check, and have done so. all 3 are considered the main boss.
yes, some of the instructions are important, and effect business. others are minor and crap and I dont really care.
I am a bit of an 'old school person', the whole point is to make the company money, so I make money. but when they cant decide and agree on how business should be run, policy with clients and company men, rules and parameters for the drivers, it makes things very difficult. which in turn makes the company look bad, and makes me look bad. this bothers me because it reflects on me when I have to deal with clients and company men.
imo, some of their decisions are wrong, but that is not on me to say so. is my job to do as I'm told. I am just employee. I drive the truck or answer the phone and dispatch depending what I assigned that day. not my job to make decisions. my job to follow thru with decisions and get them done.
yes, I need to look for somewhere else to work. there are other circumstances in my life right now that is making that search difficult.
thank you everyone for you opinion, thoughts, and advice.
y'all take care and be safe out there -
sounds like the company is small enough you might try to get everyone together at once and see if everyone can come to a agreement how they want things done
