    Leannamarie -

Thanks for turning me on to them. They look like they would meet a lot of my needs (except Scooter, but oh well). I will be calling them tomorrow (closed today).

See this is why I am asking you folks..... found another company I had not looked into..... and they are in my neck of the woods! sorta :biggrin_25514:

I wasn't trying to push them over anyone else, just saying that they met our needs and we have been very happy with them. The one thing that really sticks out with them is the hometime. They ALWAYS have him home either on the day requested, or a day early. That is very important to me, that a company values your time enough to get you home when they say they will. Only once did he not get home, and that was because his truck broke down in Denver. Once he was rolling, they gave him the choice of going home or picking a different day. I was slightly nervous that he might be late for our wedding, but he even got home a day early.

hehehehe yeah, being late for your own wedding is not on the list of "Crowd-Pleasers". Sounds great, and I did not take your advice as a "push", I took it as advice, and gladly at that. I really appreciate your insight. They will be getting a call from me tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Hey Shanto -

Yeah, I have read many stories about the tuition reimbursement "trickery". And I am trying to go into this with both eyes wide open. That is why I am asking people who know.....

Thanks for getting back with me on this and adding your two cents. It is highly appreciated!

oh, i dont know....its proably the easiest physical job i've had in a long time....but to some people it could be a total pain in the ###. guess it depends on what your used to....
-different weather conditions, wind, tarps are 'heavy' depending on what your used to throwing around...guess bout 70-90 pounds....i personally love it.... to me its pretty easy, but i still get a good workout, sometimes have to think about a load and how to secure (depends if your hauling the same junk over and over)....has a element of danger (kinda- depends again on what your used to)....a extreme element of seriousness- haulin' 50,000 pounds of steel down the highway next to someone's kids- you know- there's no srewin' around on your securements, etc....depends on your personality and if you want a little workout in whatever the weather happens to be that day. i'd be just fine never pulling anything else, or at least for awhile....but would like to learn some new freight securement in my next job....started getting a little board with some of the freight....but can't help that.

    Hey Faber -

Appreciate the info. Flatbedding is certainly not out of the question. There are certain concerns of course, but the idea of getting a workout is always a good thing when you spend a lot of time sitting. Lifting 70-90 lbs is not a big thing either. Just don't want to get blown off the side of a load while using a tarp as a sail. :biggrin_2551:

Safety is a big thing with me. In truth, I spent the first 15 formative years of my working life in the back of an ambulance (driving too), so I know first hand of what can happen when things go wrong with a tractor trailer. And I have no desire to have that happen to me.

Thanks for the info and the insight. It is definately giving me answers to help me decide which way to go....

yeah, i hear ya....i bet you saw all kinds of stuff....and those tarps are big sails....i've skied a good 20 ft. holding on to one on the ground, while it buried another guy under it and his son just about rolled over laughing....but yeah they can be dangerous. if u do go flatbed, get out and help a brother out no matter who he works for if u can....at least to get it folded or pinned, common flatbed courtesy....

Oh yeah, absolutely.... someone who would sit and watch another struggle deserves every evil deed that befalls them.

Great insight.... not sure that the 20 foot ride would be all that welcome, but I guess there is some sort of a thrill there, huh? :?)

Thanks a lot man.....maybe one day we will meet...........

That's why I say you should go and talk to them personally. There are some companies that will hire without experience and train you on the job. So if you show up at their terminal you are thinking outside the box and some might just think you really want the job. With all the schools out there you have to take a different approach. Besides, it gives you a perfect opportunity to ask where you can go to gain the experience for that type of work. Sometimes companies work with other trucking companies that might take you. You're showing that company that you really want to work for them and I guarantee you they will remember you and just might make you a special hire.

That's a very good point GasHauler. Plus they can put a face with a name. I had never thought about until you made your original post about visiting the companies and recruiters up close and personal. Plus it is a lot easier to hang up a phone than it is to to remove my inquisitive self from a building. hehehehehe

    Thanks man.....
