    I am the boss.

    Your mileage varies, obviously.

Besides that, most office people don't understand how the regular hours of service operate, let alone split berth provision.

Are you really that afraid of the "boss"?

No, they don't. They don't even accurately record all drive time per the regulations! Does your ELD kick you to line 4 if you're sitting at a red light, RRX, or while stuck in traffic? FALSIFICATION!!! Does it allow you to "creep" around a parking lot to avoid line 3 time? FALSIFICATION!!! Does it allow "yard move" to avoid line 3 time? FALSIFICATION!!! And that's just line 3! How many hours are you logging on line 1 or 2 that SHOULD be line 4 under the regulations? FALSIFICATION!!!

ELD's didn't put an end to log falsification, but it did make folks think what they are doing is perfectly legit because "the box allows it". That ridiculous electronic log hasn't done a #### thing to make drivers compliant with the HOS, but it HAS added a level of stress as folks race against that inflexible and unforgiving clock to get where they need to be before it expires. How many speeding 10+ tickets have been issued to governed elog equipped trucks? Where are the ONLY places they can exceed the speed limit to that extent?

I've asked this question several times to a wide variety of people, and nobody yet has had an answer, so let me ask you: If I'm at a shipper and they are busy playing Tetris with my load, and I know what time I need to be rolling in order to make it home legally, which is the best option: 1) Do a hurry-up job on my load securement and HOPE nothing falls off along the way, because I've got to go; 2) Take the extra 30 minutes to PROPERLY secure the load, then blow past the HOS by those 30 minutes getting home; or 3) Take the extra 30 minutes to properly secure the load, then HAMMER DOWN in order to make up those 30 minutes? Keep in mind, I'm a day cab, and paying for a hotel 30 minutes from home just isn't going to happen. I'm going home one way or the other...so which of the 3 options is best?

Yeah, we see who the "ol brains" is here. At least my reading comprehension is 100 percent. What's your excuse? Or maybe you didn't even bother to read who I quoted/responded to in that particular post. Anyway, I agree ELDs don't judge a driver's rested state nor do they prevent a fatigue driver from operating a CMV. This guy did...

Also, ELDs do NOT ensure HOS compliance. Drivers have been cheating them for YEARS. Lots of drivers log sleep berth while doing other tasks. I see ignorant losers taking their 30 minute breaks while they fuel up their trucks regularly. Once cry babies realize this will only become more prevalent with the ELD mandate since way more people will be joining in on the fun the megas will all be paying Congress to pass a law to make driver facing cameras the next standard. This is what you ELD fanboys seem to miss. It's the elephant in the room. One law builds on the next. This trend continues until we have zero privacy anymore. I guess you're ok with that well, many are not!

I never want less then a 10 hour break,.
you sure do have a tough time with the last 30 minutes on your 14 hours. That should give you a 14.5 hour day so you can secure your load or stop at the store on your way home.
And to think how few hours you work that 30 minutes would ruin your life,

Nobody is FORCED to do anything. Grow a pair and say, NO! This has always been an option and it will never change regardless of what any law says. The driver has the last say in anything he does when it comes to operating a CMV. That's why it's always their fault no matter what happens. It's called responsibility.

ELDs are for the lazy losers who are too weak for anything less than a 10 hour break.

The problem with focusing exclusively upon the split sleeper provisions to add flexibility is that it won't do anything for those of us without sleepers.
That's just the 30 minutes I'm forced to sit & twiddle my thumbs in the middle of my work day.

I'd be perfectly content to go back to the HOS as they were when I first started out...same ones that are STILL in place for passenger CMV's. If the "new" rules are so much safer, or the "old" rules so much more dangerous, why is the priceless & irreplaceable cargo (human life) subject to the old rules while insured & replaceable cargo (stuff) are bound by the new rules?

I'd GLADLY give up that 11th hr of driving and the 34 hr reset in order to run under the old rules. Even on my longest days, I don't drive more than 9 to 9.5 hours...and it takes me almost 2 full weeks to approach 70. Since those HOS are still on the books, shouldn't be difficult at all to say "choose which rules you want" much like you can choose 60/7 or 70/8.
