Hey!
I just wanted to say thanks to this forum and it's members. I've already learned so much just lurking through the threads and posts.
A few questions I have. If you have any input, I'd love to hear from you.
Facts:
29 years old.
Single
No Kids
Live in Hartford CT .
Looking to get my CDL. ( Probably through Nettts )
I've been doing a great deal of research on the question below, but it would be great to hear from anyone that has personal knowledge or experience.
Questions:
I get the feeling that jobs vary region to region in the country, is the Hartford CT area good for trucking?
I understand I'll need to go OTR and get some experience under my belt, but are there good local jobs in the area that will have me home weekends?
Any companies I should try to get on with?
Anything I should be aware of in this market area? Positives / Negatives?
Thank you for your time!

Good luck to you. Have you looked at AllState Trucking School in Seymour?
JCRH Thanks this. -
No I have not.
I was leaning towards Nettts because of location near Hartford, but I see AllState has a Satellite location in Newington.
Do you have any experience with the school? -
They just opened the Newington location a few months back. It's one on one training so I am sure you'd get more attention than if you were in a bigger class like NETTS. Definately give them a call.
BostonTanker and JCRH Thank this. -
I went to Nettts in Bridgeport and was actually impressed with the training I received. If you are looking local check Con-Way in Stratford, they were hiring students when I was in school. Your other option would be checking out construction companies. I don't know much in the way of what is in the Hartford area but I worked for an Asphalt company out of school. Knock on doors, stop by construction sites etc. Companies appreciate the effort in doing an honest to god job hunt. Plus if you go in and talk to somebody it makes you more recognizable than a name on an application.
At least that's what worked for me. Shoot me a PM if you want more information. -
I appreciate the responses! Thank you.

You get an automatic "PAY RAISE" if you get the hell out of Connecticut! I was born and grew up there. I'd love to move back but the state income tax is astronomical.
If you move to a state with no income tax or at least a lowewr income tax, you'll be saving thousands of dollars a year, it's like a pay raise.
