Depends on what you are hauling! If you are hauling specialized materials then yes, it is worth it because the pay is better. If you plan on hauling steel and lumber and general FAK then the only thing you will do is make it easier to tarp.

I have a few in my fleet. I mainly haul steel, lumber, and sheetrock, with back hauls being what ever I did that Fox and pays decent. For a step, they are good but it does not allow you to haul od. Otherwise worth the investment.

If it is too wide to cover, cant you leave it "slid" open and secure it then go? Or does it need to be stretched out every time you roll?

If your considering a Conestoga Flat just consider one thing. If your going to load freight at shippers that use loading pits they are very difficult to back in and very easy to destroy!

These trailers are up to 108" wide and getting them into pits is no easy task! If you screw up with tarps you can usually repair them enough so you can deliver the load, but tear up a Conestoga and you not only have lost the load but now you have a big repair bill!
    Just my two cents!

So in that situation since it is "soo easy" to slide it up out of the way, he then would not have hit the tarp system, just bent the rails/track?

ETA; If you cant get strait into that door then you should not buy an expensive trailer. :biggrin_25521:

If you open up the sides you can't see to back in! I don't envy these guys that have to back them in. I back regular flats in all day long (yard jockey) and I wouldn't touch one of these!

There are some trailers where you can run it open, but most are a no.

A little wider but are they that much different than backing a van down into the hole?

Backs just like a van. Can't see unless it's un rolled.
