I'll keep this as simple as possible.
Does Melton use Pre-Pass?
What is tarp pay?
Does Melton pay detention?
What is HazMat pay?
Are their drivers required to pay for TWIC, HazMat and Passport cards?
What is the pay scale?
If anyone has anything to add to my questions please do, I'm considering making a move from TMC. I ran 8100 miles last month and would like to run at least close to that somewhere else but the answers to the above questions are the real important information to me. Thanks.
Considering Melton, have a couple questions

I got approved for hire with Melton but was told 1800 miles per week for average. I told the recruiter I would check back later in the summer to see their freight picked up. I was just glad that she didn't waste my time.

i am currently employed at melto so maybe this will help.....you can get prepass but you pay for it melton does not....tarp pay is 40.00 and you will tarp most all loads,,,,melton does pay detention but there is 10 loops you have to jump thru to get it,,,,,there is no etra pay for hauling haz-mat,,,,,,twic haz-mat pasport and all are at the drivers expense with no reimbursment,,,,,pay scale depends on ur past expirence,,,,miles at at a bare minimum I havent seen a 2000 mile week all year, you will never get layover pay because thay will deadhead you anywhere to break your layover..anything else just ask... hope this helps you out some
Rollr4872 Thanks this. -
So they do not pay for Pre-Pass? Do they not have them in most trucks? Also you say they don't pay for HazMat, TWIC or Passport, do they require any of them? Helps a lot thank you by the way.
-
no thay do not pay for prepass, the trucks that have them are paying for it outta their pocket, I have prepass so I know this is fact.....If you dont have haz-mat you are required to get it with in 6 mths of employment,as for twic and passport thay are not required but without them you loose miles and will be sitting more so than other drivers who have them. The other catch is if thay offer you a sign on bonus and you dont get haz-mat and twic within 6 months you dont get the bonus,if your fuel mileage isnt what thay expect you dont get the bonus, it is like the layover pay dont expect to get it because thay have a dozen hoops you will need to jump thru to get it.....

i been here for a min i been pushin 2300 miles but every once in a while ill drop to 1500 prepass u really dont need it 9 time out of 10 your going to shoot pass the scale house u dont pay for no tolls beside when ur on da kanasas turnpike but u get your money back, they pay u back for showers, melton does not play with your money i dont know abouth the other melton driver but i get all my money back i get miles that im satified wih most of the time ............melton is a good company u wont hear many drivers bad mouthing melton which is a new one

How much is the sign on bonus? Is it enough to pay for the TWIC and Passport Card? Is there an option to set your truck up with EZPass? I appreciate the answers, mileage I can be flexible with I just want a company that I can work for and not feel like I'm getting treated like crap. Decent pay helps, of course and seems like Melton has some pay advantages over where I am at right now. Staying out is not a problem for me so I think one of the biggest gripes people have is off the table.
-
yes you can order prepass but its on you thay dont pay for ot, the bonus was 1000.00 when i signed on but you have to have the haz-mat and twic card before you get the bonus and your fuel milage has to be up to what thay expect. dont beleive the 2300 miles that realtime is talking about because it wont happen, you will be sitting just like everyone else is.

Cplmac2, you also asked about the bonus, if memory serves it is $1000 but not paid right away. You have to stay for a minimum time before you get it. Twic is about $100. Hazmat will cost you just a little more. Also, someone said that getting detention pay is next to impossible. I never had trouble getting paid for it, you just have to apply for it on the quallcom. And if they do deadhead you somewhere so what. The miles pay the same. I had them deadhead me 1000 miles once just to get me out of the Dallas area because they had too many trucks in the region. Another driver and myself were sitting at the same truckstop and got the same dispatch at the same time. We just started laughing and said "let's go", you want me to drag air around, ok.
