So if I go on a 200 mile trip 1 day a week..would I use a loose log sheet or I have to use a log book and ..log off duty all the other days I am not working?? ( I am only working partime). What about the day I am local and only work 3 hrs...e.g/....Off Mon and Tuesday ... On Wednesday work 3 hrs about 60 hrs round trip locally.. On Thursday I do the 200 mile trip...How would I log the work I did on Wednesday?? Thanks guys..

If you are less than 150 miles.. As the crow flys. You don't need to run a log book... BUT have to have a time card or a record of your time for the day. But,but I can fudge it.. OK. I knew a company , who's branch was local drivers.. And to comply with everything, some of the drivers would drop a load.. DOT came in, and asked for pay stubs.. Either the drivers were getting paid real, real well, or something was illegal.. They found the later.. Fined big time. If you go out of the 150 miles.. You HAVE to post the last seven days on your logs.. So why not always just run a log book? I used to have to run one doing local .. You don't need to log every stop, but you can let's say work 10 hours.. Log 5 driving and 5 loading unloading. It's a time card. And just write what area you work.. Like Los Angeles, ca To your furthest.. To Ontario , ca.. Now as you are only part time.. Do you have another job, or job driving? According to law you are supposed to report that time. At one point if you mowed your lawn or did house work, they wanted that recorded... But backed off. The DOT can come in and get your tax returns, and figure out at that part time job must pay real well. Or you aren't logging the time. Now if that's the only job you have.. Working one day a week.. All other days are logged as off duty, not driving. You can have more than one day on one page.. But can only go to the end of the month. Then you need to start another page from the first to the day before you drive. And have to have the last 7 days.. Not including today's. so total of 8 days. Or that is a violation.. If you aren't sure.. Most. Medium to large companies have a safety person.. They can help you, as your being legal helps them. Best of luck!

    It's 100 air-miles which equal 115 statute miles.

You can run a time sheet and the days you have to log for going outside the 100 air-miles boundary you can attach that log sheet to the time sheet.

There is no reg saying you can't have more than one month on a log page. If you take off from Sept 28th to Oct 10th you can put that on one page. Your company may not want you to but the FMCSA doesn't care.

Sorry you are correct.. It's 100 straight line miles.. But if the road is crooked like hwy 80 in eastern California.. It can be more than the statute miles. I can go from Reno,nv and make it to Sacramento, ca.. About 120 running miles but still 100 miles as the crow flys. But why push it.. The rules unless they were just changed stated that you can only have one month per page. So if you were off from 1-25 through 2-2.. You would need 1 page to the end of the month, then the other from the first to the day before you start to work.

Glad it helped.. If any questions, your company should have a safety man. A dumb question today is better than a stupid mistake later. Log books were original made to protect the driver.. Now it's a money thing.. OPPS you didn't dot your i .. So here's a ticket.
