Does anyone have any information about the Continental Truck Driver Education and Training school in Dallas? I was told they were awarded a special grant for veterans. Any veteran who trains with them during the month of August has their tuition waived. I don't know if there are any qualifying factors other than being eligible for GI Bill benefits and a Texas resident. I will find out more on Tuesday.
Would like to hear from someone who has been through this school as I have found nothing here or by doing a Google search.

I was also looking at them. I'm hoping that my VA may pay for it. Just started looking today. LOL If you find any info please post. I'm in the Austin area and finding nothing closer.

Same here. I just filed my app online. Guess I'll talk to them soon.
I'm not a veteran, but am a displaced worker. I am eligible for WIA benefits which SHOULD pay for my schooling. Unfortunately, from all I hear, the WIA program ran out of money until October (new fiscal year.) That's what the lady at the Workforce Center tells me. However; the lady over the WIA program is out of the office until Monday, Aug 1st. Hope to hear from her then with better news.
I already have my CDL permit. Turns out that means nearly nothing except one less thing in school to have to work for. Here's to hoping Continental is as good a school as they make themselves out to be. I can't find any reviews either. So if I attend, I will be posting a review on Google, at least, to help other potential students. (and here as well) -

I enrolled with Continental today. The building was much smaller than I expected. I took the housing. The cleaning guy wasn't available and he had the key, so they showed me the location but couldn't show me the inside.
I'll run a thread on here sharing my experience. I'll be starting Aug 16th. -
Blank Look .. I hope the school works out for you. I found out the recruiting lady didn't know much about the VA or the 911/GI Bill. Their school was not allowed to access that program until this month (August). Apparently only the better schools were permitted to use the 911/GI Bill to help with student tuition.
I have decided to go with ATDS in Waco. They are a PTDI certified school just like Continental and have had access to the 911/GI Bill funding for over a year now. There are two ladies named Sue in the office, one may go by Susan, but anyway they are both very helpful and respectful.
I got out of the Navy in 2003 so I am only eligible for 70% of the 911/GI Bill so I have to come up with 1800 bucks on my own, but once I do that I will be good to go. I hope to start by the end of August. -
I considered ADTS as well. In my heart, I kinda would prefer a school with some affiliation such as PDTI. Continental blew all that off. (The way they explained it made sense only because I'd seen my previous employer do the same thing, getting affiliated just so he could have an impressive, though really meaningless, logo added to his letterhead.) But the price-point on this was too good. Even more so since I was borrowing. Also, I wanted to be as close to home as I could; so that was another factor.
And a friend of mine said generally companies are less interested in where you train (unless it's a total crap, sham job school I would guess) than whether or not you can drive. And they'll find that out before they hire you.
I'm from Paris, about 2 hrs NE of Dallas. Perhaps we'll see each other on the road soon. *tips hat*Grendavik Thanks this. -
Continental Truck Driver Training School has been training students since 2000 and its job placement rating has been excellent! This school has great driving instructors who really care about their students. I am very happy with the services i received from Continental. Thanks for sharing.

Blank Look.....did you check into the program at Paris Jr. College when you were looking into driving schools?
Also, aren't the WIA funds available to underemployed (meaning minimum wage or not much better) as well as unemployed?
Speaking of San Antonio, I know there is a Roadmaster school there and I believe a Sage school. If my information is current, Sage is supposed to be Pell eligible. I would have to recheck the name but believe Sage also is the trainer for a Jr. college there.
