Thinking about a career change!
I understand forums are used for good and bad statements, depending on the question or complaint. Useally people use these sites to throw stones and hide behind the computer , more often then than not!
So here go's the question of the day!
If one had the choice to start over from the begining.
1)Would he or she go through the company contract school and deal with the 6-8 month paying back deal?
2)Stay local and pay a little extra for school?
Show up with my state CDL and endorsments already in hand , get the new student seat time with a company?
Thanks for any good feedback
Contract training or just use a local school?

Always avoid any company sponsored training if at all possible. Getting your CDL on your own opens up many more possibilities.
Under no circumstances should you do anything with CR England at all. -
I'll just use a local school, ther's Elite , IITR and Western Pacific? CRST now bugging me, they stated that they will put me thru Western here. England dropped me and then sead if I came up with a police report for wreck (I was rear ended) they would take me. I'd be happy running I-5 corridor , not running COOR's east of the "sippie"!

Interesting
In some ways the local school idea is good if you have the money, they actually teach you stuff, and you get choices.
I have survived CRE twice. It works for some of us. -
If you have the cash ... just go to a company and pay them for the cost of the school. That will get you a CDL. It will be cheaper than most schools. By paying up front, you are under no obligation to stay with them ... Then if you want, you can go out with their trainer and get paid while getting a few weeks of seat time.
You have more leverage being with a training company when you don't owe them anything.russellkanning Thanks this. -
I started with a local Community College that had a truck driving school. I paid about half what a larger dedicated truck driving school would have cost using my own funds. I think it was a better education with more hands on driving than some of the big schools. Smaller classes and more one on one instruction.

Going with IITR , first week got permit and all endorsments! Yard and state CDL A next three weeks

After doing about five minutes worth of research on C.R. England, I pretty much decided that a person should stay as far away from them as possible. Did I mention that before doing this research I applied and was accepted to go through their training program? Needless to say I told the recruiter I was no longer interested. Nice try C.R. England.

I'm a liscenced Class A CDL driver! Passed state pre-trip and road test, never been so stressed out! I'm sure I'm not a top ranked student nor on the bottem off the pile either. Now who other than the blue or orange companies " that came in with free lunch " not to pick from. Maybe somebody like So-Cal Trans? Any suggestions? For a fresh green horn?
