Hello- My husband has been an O/O for 9 years in CA and does well. He's a local hauler so he's home every night. We are planning a move to TX and in order to get financing on a home we are being told he'll need to be under contract with a company in Texas to prove his income will be there.
My husband has never been under "contract" or at least what I think of as a contract. Can anyone shed some light on what these contracts are. Is it just you make this much..or are you legally obligated to haul for this one company?? Seems that takes the whole O/O operator out of it. You are their hauler.
Thanks in advance.
Contracts?

If he has filed taxes for the past 9 years then it shouldn't matter. He has proof of income and being under contract has no thing to do with it. Look for a different bank to finance your home in Texas.
Kmtrucking Thanks this. -
WOW really? Thanks...I'll keep that in mind.

there are tons of self employed in america. banks are supposed to go off yearly tax statements.
i've never heard of anyone being asked to have contracts of who they do work for. most self employed don't do long term work for any one person or company anyways. -
If you are planing to move to TX and haven't found a job in Tx then you would have to lease your equipment to a company that is based out of Tx and i don't know if that is going to help much because the next problem you might have the length if time at the new job.
You may want to consider quicken loans they can come up with something new

Any "BIG" Bank should know better however a credit union can make up rules so just be aware the restrictions may be different. Hope that helps. -
Hello, was just wondering ..if your husband is local there in Cali does he operate under his own authority? If so does he have customers lined up here in Texas for local work here? Because I can see where a bank would want to see the line up. If he intends to do regional or OTR that would be different from what he's doing now,so they just want to establish " new income" in Texas as well as past tax years for credit worthiness.

Yes, he's under his own authority here in Cali. We are going to TX in November to have meetings with 2 companies. Both of which said they are always needing O/O and both gave estimated weekly incomes as though you wouldn't need to work for anyone else. I'm hoping a sub hauler agreement would suffice as a contract(s).

Do not use quicken loans for any reason.
