Did a search on converting a 9 speed to a 13, but I was wondering how difficult it would be to convert a 10 speed to a 15.
I own a driving school and am looking to add to my fleet. I currently own a 13 speed T-600, not because I need it for the weight, but simply because I want to be able to teach students how to work the splitter.
A local company has very nice trucks that they would sell to me, but they are 10 speeds and, again, I want something with a splitter.
Is this conversion possible and what would I be looking at for a bill for the change?
Thanks in advance!

your crazy, A 10 can have the back box swapped and turned into a conventional 15 speed with deep reduction. but hes right dont buy a 15 because of the splitter. The newbie drivers will not understand it. plus its not what ur wanting if ur trying to teach them to split the high side gears.

Not to dog your curriculum, by any means, I'm all about education... but with the large majority of companies using 10-speeds and autos... and usually just owner/ops using 13s, 15s and 18s... what's the point of taking time to teach the students about an additional set of gears and splitter operation?
Having written curriculum, and having seen how desparately newbies need to know useful things like how to move tandems to scale a load, how to move a fifth wheel, what the 11/14 and 70 mean, and how to back up properly... seems like the time spent on that particular block of instruction could be better spent... and save you money and time trying to provide a tool that won't get used by students anywhere in their near future.Kansas Thanks this. -
I do agree, i wouldnt worry about a trans swap. let them learn on a 10. and for the 10 to 15 talk. i guess i should have explained with more detail. it doesnt make it a ome 15 but it does add deep reduction to ur current 10... so ur right it does make one hell of a tranny. but u do have to currently have the right 10 speed to do so. and also a very good tranny mechanic

I've never driven a 15 speed that split the gears. The ones I've had experience with all drove like a standard 10 speed on the road, and had 5 deep reduction "mud gears" for off road.

Put a 4 speed behind that 10 speed and really teach them how to split some gears!

To the OP that 13spd will cover all the basics of being able to split gears, if they get that down they could even handle an18spd. -
Ive heard of 15 speed without deep gear reduction so the bottom 5 are the same as the 10 then the high side can be split like a 13 but they may be incorrect because i havent seen a 15. But alot of the older trucks ive seen with 15's and they had deep gear reduction (looking at youtube and truck paper app) but i would guess during the 90's they maybe had gone to the 5 on the low side 10 on the high side.
