I am a 26 year old father of one beautiful lil girl:biggrin_25519:. I am also a convicted felon, :biggrin_25512:(UNFORTUNATELY). I would never make an excuse for anything I've done. Right or Wrong. But my crime was a result of the circumstances I was forced to grow up in. Like I said, I would never make an excuse. I am an aspiring truck driver and I've already been pre-approved to attend one of the top training academies in my city. They are also highly regarded by most of the major carriers in the U.S. I spoke with the head state examiner, who also happens to be a former D.A's assistant. I was completely truthful and honest about my past and he informed me that my situation wouldn't be a problem, and he's dealt with worse. I am also aware that training facilities will tell you what you would like to hear, in order to get the thou$and$ you dish out for their training. Basically, what Im asking is... If there are any drivers from, Schneider, U.S Express, Watkins Shepard, FFE, or any other carriers who starts student drivers out at the least, 0.30 cpm, who could inform and provide me with the current hiring requirements of their respective companies? If you are a former employee of either one of these companies and you have something negative to say, I DONT WANNA HEAR YO MOUTH!:biggrin_25512: I'm not starting this thread for you wimps and complainers:biggrin_25516:... Crying about what the trucking industry used to be or how bad the company you used to drive for treated you. None of these companies are perfect, so obviously it had something to do with what you where doing wrong. I have never driven a semi, but I have already come to understand that trucking is what you make of it. I WILL, make the best of any situation I am blessed to be involved in when my time comes. Until then, I am seeking advice from respectful, experienced, GROWN individuals who have positive things to say. In advance... THANKS LADIES & GENTS!

well i'm a felon (unfortunately drug related) however, i've cleaned my act up & turned my life around. i've worked for ffe in the past before i became a felon & i'll tell u this, for a new guy such as urself they're ok but like u said & i've said myself before IT'S WHAT U MAKE IT. as far as schneider is concerned & like all others, they'll want to know what the crime was, when was ur conviction date, etc. then review it on a case by case basis. schneider i think is an excellent starter company but that's just my opinion. i will do a little research & see what i can find out to help u & will forward it on to u.

It's going to be tough if the conviction isn't over 10 years old, but not impossible. The only way to find out is by calling a recruiter and lay it all out. Be honest and sincere. Do not try to gloss it over, make excuses or hide anything. If you get a positive response...try and get it via email. That way if and when you get to orientation they can't send you home for covering it up.
Do not give up! Everyone deserves a second chance and a few companies out there still follow that idea.
As far as certain companies go...why narrow it down? Call as many as you can, sound eager to do the job and again....be honest.
Alot of the advice you get on here will bum you out and and make you think twice about the career. DON'T FALL FOR IT! Soak up the positive feedback and take the rest with a grain of salt.
Keep us informed on your progress. Good luck!

I agree. If you want to find out about any companies policies you should call their recruiting office and speak with them. Some of the trucking sites have company listings that give basic hiring requirements and whether they accept felons or not. Keep in mind that policies change from time to time. My advice would be to call the companies direct.

Most of these companies want the conviction to be at least 7-10 years old..in the meantime be proactive and get all the info about your felony that you can. Which means all court documents you can get ahold of in case any questions arise.

    Good luck

If it's either drug or violence related it'll have to be more than 10 years ago.
This seems to be typical, but you never know unless you ask as everyone is always changing hiring policies.
