Ive been at conway in elmsford , ny for about 1 month .. It seems to me that 95% of the drivers do no want to do linehaul because its night time and alot of hrs, also family and etc. The company is hiring new ppl to do P&d. Now alot of the drivers at the company , so i heard, really dont like new drivers because they take from their ot and these drivers , well the ones that wanna work ot, are doing bout 14-16 hrs a day. I mean i left a straight truck job and i was making after taxes about 875.00 to 900.00 a week avg and im single no kids. I worked the inbound and the outbound at conway, while one of the new hire only worked inbound because he lived in l.i and the other hire guy has only been there for a week and hasnt driven a forklift yet. He's in our class now since they wanna maximize the oportunity to have us go thru the training driving the trucks instead of teaching one guy by himself later. my question is this...honestly i dont mind doing p&d but then im not really gonna be doing ot like that either. i actually wanna work hard at conway do ot and save up to buy my own tractor and have ppl working for me and start a small company with the opportunity to grow into a fortune 500 company in the future. But i would work at conway tho till i have lets say bout 3-4 tractors and so on. But anyways...my question is this....by the looks of things and other drivers that have been there for 5 months ..new p&d drivers really dont make ot like on a weekly basis. unless ur a fast worker and u come back early from deliveries and pickup then the company rewards you with more work. I rather do linehaul , i have nothing to lose, im used to working so many hrs a day so to me i prefer linehaul...But after my training is done and im the seniority outta the 3 new hire possibly 4...since i saw a new guy interviewing today....would i be able to chose to do linehaul?? or is what the company wants me to do eventho i ask them that i prefer linehaul ? Or i have to wait till bidding starts up again and then hope theres a spot left at the linehaul position??? I need to know , i mean im willing to stick it out my first year, thats my plans but if im not gettin hours like ot then imma have to get a second job on the weekend to compensate hours im not working at conway.... Please be honest and tell...i mean the service center manager and operational manager says im a good dock worker, on my 3rd day i was already on the forklift strippin a trailer by myself at 430 am. but i wanna do linehaul , thats where the money is at , i wanna know how can i approach this after i graduate my class or training ...thanks...by the way this is my first post on truckers report ..and i wanna thank u guys because u help me make my decision to join conway and leave a well payin job but honestly it didnt have no future and were getting ready to move to a smaller place and maybe lay ppl off...:biggrin_255::biggrin_25515::biggrin_25522: lol

Well Welcome to The Best Truck Driver forum around, I have been around till I found this one a while back, there is a wealth of info. here, If I may correct you in that when you buy a rig, I would suggest that you drive that truck till which time you can add another one, and then go from there, You must be young, I am impressed with your goals, those are very good to have. I wish you luck, On Conway LTL I can't tell you anything about them. Be safe read up on here and Good Luck.

I have the same problem, I love linehaul, hate p&d, but thats all thats available at my barn, so thats what I do until the time comes I can win a linehaul bid. I would stay stick it out and get a second job, thats what I did, just dont tell anybody b/c they want you to log it.
