In my 10th year here at CFI/CWTL,,,feel free to ask pertinent questions about the company,it policies and its philosophy.
BUT Here are a few tips to live by:
1.Look and ACT professional(they didnt come up with a dress code for nothing)
2.Speak Professional, with customers(dont make it worse for the next driver) and Management
3.Ask questions if you dont know
4.Be courteous to your fellow Employee,,,
4a.Relays;be there ontime(or earlier) and be ready to relay
4b.Help them out at customers(backing,sliding tandems,etc...)
5.Equipment: Treat it like its actually yours, dont drop YOUR PROBLEM onto the next driver
5b.Actually do a pretrip and a postrip PHYSICAL INSPECTION inside and out,,I.E. sweep the trailer out EVERYTIME,WITHOUT ?
5c.If its broke, fix it before you drop it
6.Fuel Mileage:IDLING ,there is/are 2 types-NECESSARYandUNNECESSARY,or a simple way of looking at it,If you get out of the truck, keys go with you
6a.Out Of Route Plan your route, plan your trip
7.Assume nothing: How ever you did it at your Last company, dont assume we do it the same here(there is a reason why you left said former company)
8.Miles:There is no sure way to maximize your miles other than be ready to roll each and every load,if your in a terminal and given more than one choice of loads,,remember this,2/3 of the population lives east of I-35,tak loads that ensure that you can get another before the pay period closes out(at least another dipatch),,When I was OTR my "formula" was be out 3 weeks, highlight(make sure I was west of the Miss River) and thus get a load home in that last week)btw I live in Eastern NC)
9.If possible reset your hrs weekly(pllan this) thus the planner always see's you with adequate hours to pull loads(Your FM has lil to do with your miles)
10.Have a positive attitude, even when your downguess what your FM doesnt need to hear this, they have 80+ drivers on their board,80+ different and diverse attitudes,,keep hammering the fact your upset with everything sooner or later your just"white-noise" to them
10a.Your a DRIVER,not a Tourist,,,if your here for the view your at the wrong place, dont gripe about where your going,,,

Very wise tips. I think ultimately it boils down to this: you work for them, they don't work for you.

ECU good tips. I can't complain about Con-Way. I have had a couple of minor issues, but that is anywhere you go. Also the issues I had were quickly taken care of when I talked to them about it.
In other words he is full of BS. We had a driver in my orientation that was union from previous 3 years with salary position. Remember there are 2 sides to every story. -
On the tips it was aimed at people that I have persoannly talked to in the past few months(new guys),,really dont matter to me where you came from your not there anymore and at CWTL there are Minimal standards that should be met driver to driver, but for some reason its always"Well we didnt do that at my last (scrub) company i came from so why should I do it here -
lonewolf4ad Thanks this.
