I live in Joplin. Can't give you much info about CFI / Conway Truckload since I'm not a driver... but the Joplin Holiday Inn is very nice and safe, recently renovated, and has an indoor pool. You'll enjoy your stay. There's a Sam's Club across from the parking lot and several restaurants within easy walking distance.

Conway's terminal is only about two miles from the hotel. It's huge and extremely nice. They take pride in keeping their headquarters and grounds looking good.

Joplin's Greyhound terminal is in a rough part of town. The area that Conway / Holiday Inn is in is like "night and day" compared to the area where Greyhound is.

The Crowder College trucking school is in Neosho... about 20 miles south of the Holiday Inn. It's all highway to and from. Nice place. No problems there.

Give Conway some thought and come visit our fine city :yes2557: If you need more info about Joplin... just let me know.

For what it's worth... I'll also add that I've lived here 20 years and have only heard excellent things about them... especially when they were CFI. I haven't had much interaction with Conway drivers since the buyout. We didn't use CFI much for outgoing loads since their rates were usually on the high end, but it was always a treat having a CFI truck roll in on those rare occasions.

That sounds pretty normal for a company.

My wife and I drove for CFI before the buyout. I think you will like it there. The facilities are top notch, the people are nice. We are trying to get back to working for them, but it has been 4 years since we were driving , and they want 3 months of experience in the last 3 years. We are trying to figure that out now, so we can drive for them again.

They treat you well, and expect you to get the job done. No problem, that's what a job is. We learned more in CFI's "Boot Camp" than we learned in CDL school. The purpose of CDL school is to get you your license so they can cash your check. Boot Camp is to make sure you can safely and professionally operate a truck.

We had people wash out the first couple of times they were behind the wheel, because they could not drive a truck safely. My wife and I still talk about Boot Camp, especially Lonnie and how much we learned there. If you do go to Neosho, tell them TeamRyan says thanks for all the help, as we never got to see them again after we graduated.

That sounds Sweeeet! How much driving experience do you need to go to conway? Conway pulls a lot of LTL, do you get to choose 53' or LTL, or do you start with a 53' then if you want pull doubles? How much extra does doubles pay vs a 53' trailer?

I got a bit over 1.5 years driving exp. perfect record, no accidents ets. One fix it ticket for a trailer marker light out, and one overweight ticket. Never been late for pickup or delivery once since driving. Been driving for CRE which really stinks but I need the experience, not starving to death, but not making any money aether. At those wages I could be making about 3X more money for about a third less work.

Your asking about entirely 2 different companies

Conway Truckload-Former CFI All 53's NO Doubles at all,tho we do pull LTL freight in our Vans

    Conway Freight- LTL (all doubles)

If you start at Truckload you have to work a year here before you can "apply" at Freight, then IF your selected as a NEW HIRE you are at the bottom of the bid sheet,I.E. "Part time casual" Dock worker/AS Needed Driver(Good Money tho WHEN your working)

We are not the same company,we are owned by the same Corp, hence the same logo

Let me Expand on all this also, there is a lil more you might want to know to be fully informed

Solo & team rates for 12 months or more prior experience
Miles Solo Rate Team Rate pet pass
    0-124999 $0.36 $0.22 $0.215 $0.35
    125000-249999 $0.37 $0.225 $0.22 $0.36
    250000-499999 $0.38 $0.23 $0.225 $0.37
    500000-749999 $0.385 $0.2325 $0.2275 $0.375
    750000-999999 $0.39 $0.235 $0.23 $0.38 1000000-1499999 $0.395 $0.2375 $0.2325 $0.385
    1500000-1999999 $0.40 $0.24 $0.235 $0.39
    2000000-2499999 $0.41 $0.245 $0.24 $0.40

Pet pass holders will be eligible to receive an additional 1 cent per mile for all dispatched miles during a given month if their 90-day rolling average MPG meets the minimum requirement established by the Safety department. The additional 1 cent per mile will be paid on the third paycheck of the month for all dispatched miles during the previous month.

APU's: Not all trucks have them, and all new ones wont

Trucks are at 65 mph,,unless your fuel mileage suffers you will be "asked" to limit your speed to 62

Fueling: as of today yes it is when you are pulling a Conway load(LTL )

Other than that your recruiter gave you a pretty up to date list,,good luck

I am almost done with training. So far, all has been as advertised. Be prepared to be gone from home initially 6-8 weeks. I left for orientation on 3/27/11 and will be arriving in Joplin in the morning to upgrade to my own truck. I am from Florida and have been west of the Mississippi River the entire time.
