Well freight is so good For Con-Way in sitting under a double brokered load (large grocery chain brokered to JB Hunt brokered to us) arrived here last night at 18:30 and found out appointment can't be moved up from the set 1600 time. Then I need to call JB Hunt for lumper approval and had to call JB Hunt for load info. So to recap I'm a "company driver" that has to deal with the broker for PU#, load info, directions, and pay.....sounds more like an o/o. Probably wouldn't be as irritated if miles weren't short and I wasn't going to have a semi-poor paycheck but we will chalk this up to a bad week only 38 hrs till the start of a new one and we can't get much worse then this.
As far as hiring for trucks w/ lease Payments to cover payments that's not why. They are leased from a wholly owned subsidiary of Menlo. Most large companies do it to spreads out the tax break and double dip. The lease company buys the trucks and gets to take accelerated deprieciation on taxes for 3 years against profits then Conway gets to deduct 100% of lease payments at the same time untill payoff at which time Conway gets to take accelerated depreciation from their "purchase price". Takes about 5-7 years to do but essentially you can write off the cost 2 times and then sell it before it is no longer giving you tax help. My father used to "lease" trucks between our 2 businesses all the time for the same reason. This is also why you see hotels change hands every 3-5 years. They sell back and forth to one another for tax breaks. Take the time and look at the lease agreement, it's signed by Transportation Equipment Leasing manager Mark T. Timpe.... Or is it signed by Conway Truckload Director of Billing and Credit Mark T Timpe (hint; same guy) that's why people pay high tax; companies find ways not to.
That was today's Friday Business Beat and remember Hug a Truck Don't Hit OneNotTheAverageTrucker Thanks this. -
