I went from an assigned sleeper truck with a built in fridge with freezer to a coffin sleeper that I may not have for long and want to find a way to chill my perishables. I'm usually out for a week and got a soft sided lunchbox with a 12v chiller from Pilot that doesn't look too durable that I've been using, and don't want to get a firdge like I used to have that won't fit in the truck. I've thought about getting a Yeti (or similar) cooler and some big ice packs or a hard sided plug in cooler and am looking for suggestions.

There are tons of plug in coolers that would fit in front of the passenger seat, or between the seats. Just google plug in RV coolers.

They either use the same method to cool as the one I have (and the chiller is the part that broke) or a compressor. I'd like to learn from others experience which ones are good before I buy another.

Go with a plug in 12 volt Coleman. They only last about six months to a year but get the job done without the hassle of buying ice. A Yeti isn't a great solution. I own one and wouldn't even consider putting it in the truck. Heavy, have to buy ice, dump water, and you can buy four Coleman's in the short term for what your looking to accomplish for the same price.

Guess I'll have to try one of those then, 6 months use is a lot longer than the week I got out of the one from Pilot.

I wouldn't get one of the coleman coolers. They are a temporary fix at best. Get an actual refrigerator/freezer like this...

Alpicool C12 Mini Car Refrigerator 12 Volt Portable Fridge Freezer 13 Quart(12 Liter) Vehicle, Car, Truck, RV, Boat, Mini Fridge Freezer for Driving, Travel, Fishing, Outdoor -12/24V DC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082SJQDNR/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_MK3TQFFERBP3EXX87HE3?psc=1

Bit more expensive but more dependable than thermo electric coolers.. Runs on 12v. It's small enough to sit on passenger seat or floorboard. Has a actual compressor that keeps Temps steady. The colemans only keep chill at 30 below ambient temp.

I have 2 larger ones. I run the smaller 35qt as a fridge and the larger 60qt as a freezer.

I’ve haven’t done this but I remember another Driver saying he would buy a Coleman Cooler from Walmart and get the one year warranty knowing it would only last 6 months and when it went belly up he would just stop at Walmart to replace it. So you get a full year out of your purchase vs the six months.

    Again, never tried it myself.

Except, I believe they're not being sold at Walmart anymore. Probably, too many truckers were doing exactly what you said. I'm not even sure if they're being sold on Walmart.com.

    From walmart's site.'

Doesn't look like you can get a warranty on it, but I could be wrong. Stopped at a walmart a couple weeks back and they asked if I wanted a warranty on a dvd. I had to laugh.

They do have a wide option of 12 volt coolers though.
