Speaking of the South Rim, I got a "Coolest Delivery" story--sorry, I didn't have time for pictures. I was running out of our Kingman yard, and my last stop was a load of textbooks for the Havasupai Nation school. Thing is, they live at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and there ain't no getting a truck down there.

So, I delivered to a helicopter.

Yep, that's right. Broke it all down, chucked it into a big net, the chopper shows up, clips the net on and flies the stuff all the way to the bottom. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

Well not with that attitude anyway. All it takes is a good mega driver and Google Maps.

Couple of different places. I have watched the herd come in at daylight on the Triangles in Guthrie Texas. 6666 was still stuck in time back then. They loaded out 2000 head of feeder calves that morning.

White Mesa Utah south of Monticello on 262. Came in from the North left to the South. Plenty of grass up top but reminds you of hell when you get off the top.

I have one I wished I could have seen.

When CLTL was powering Liquid Carbonic's stuff out of Burlington, NJ [long gone too!] and they had one O2 trailer with an extra setup slung ahead of the Pressure Building Coils designed to expand the liquid O2 into gas on a navy pier [one of the 7 guys who joined our barn had the clearance] to recharge the O2 storage on Nuke subs...2 - 3 times a year off he would go for the whole day. Cyro to gas means the liquid O2 expanded around 800 times back to 100% gas.

A couple weeks ago I delivered a trailer full of Washers and Dryers to a Suburban Neighborhood.

This guy I was delivering to worked out of his garage and it was a brand new suburb so he was installing all their washers and Dryers.

The load required a lift gate which I didn't have on my truck but the broker told me he had it set up with another driver coming to meet me. well that driver fell through and they didn't have a backup plan. So I had to sit around until the end of the day for them to find a driver who was a box truck driver for some company with a liftgate on his truck.

I was out of hours and didn't want to hit my clock so I stayed parked there. It was probably pretty surreal when people woke up in the morning and started jogging by me or taking their kids to school or taking their dog out and they saw a huge semi truck just parked there in their Suburban neighborhood wondering what the hell is going on with that haha. It was definitely unique.

Port huron, mi old cnc stuff, bridgeports etc. pain to tarp, 13' 10", with 4 foot drops, uneven, poky, all 53 foot of the trailer.

Oh, yeah, the "cool" bit, was -40 degrees out and tarping was outdoors.

Just remembered the most 'fun'. The director of Marketing at Matlack was approached by a rep from National Geographic looking for artwork on a developing story on HM transportation.

In addition to a shiny unit with driver they wanted someone very familiar with with working around trucks to drive a rented full size Bronco [gee, I'm aging my self here] while this photographer took artsy pictures of the guy driving down the NJ turnpike at sunup and sundown. Since I was working close they picked me.

Driver was a recent America's Road Team driver from upstate New York.

After hours of them setting up a flash with gels to highlight the driver and with a gaffer riding on the floor to change the flash batteries as needed. We headed out. back window of the Bronco down. Photog with dramine patch shooting out the window as I stayed about 10 feet ahead and in the next lane riding up and down the turnpike's northern [most gritty and industrial] end.

Being involved in photography [shot a few slide shows for training], I was interested seeing the lengths the went to to get 'the shot'.

I was promised a copy that never came. No Idea if the pictures were published.
