Most of the time I don't need to worry about scales. The routes I've been running has none. There is one up towards KC, but I like the scenic route..
Today had to scale at the COOP west of Marysville on I-70. I wasn't worried about the gross weight, it was only 77k and change. This was my 4th time across the DOT scales. Had a green light, put truck in 1st, and rolled slowly across the single-axle scale. Keep my eye on the christmas tree. It never went red, so I grabbed gears and boogied.
Well I was running with another one of our trucks, a guy that's got some years driving. He was right behind me. I looked back, and was wondering what's taking him so long. He didn't get red lighted. I asked, "Did I screw up? I didn't get a red light." He said "Nope, just have eaze across, giving them enough time to see the weight". He then proceeds to tell me his weights. Well this is why I'm wondering if I did. I don't know what mine were. I didn't sit still long enough for the scale to settle down. Must have been alright, no one came chasing me down. Or they just didn't feel like it. Thinking maybe a new way to not really blow the scales...![]()
COOP.. Did I do it wrong??

if it doesnt say stop on scale dont. If not keep a steady speed of whats posted and they can weigh you in motion.
Eaton18 Thanks this. -
If they wanted you to stop they would have said something on the loud speaker on top of giving you a red light. If you did something wrong, they would have had a LEO pull you over.
Eaton18 Thanks this. -
Just roll across in first like you did. I generally hover over the clutch so I can stop smoothly if they give me the bad light. I sure don't give it any throttle over the platform.
Eaton18 Thanks this. -
You should roll slow enough so you can see what your weights are...you will see when that RED is about to jump in your face.
Eaton18 Thanks this. -
you should go back and apologize.

If they want you to stop it's their job to tell you, either by red light or loudspeaker or signage. If you get stopped by a LEO or a scale man or a diesel cop never under any circumstances volunteer any information. Be polite and answer any questions they have, but don't volunteer anything.

Ok, sure I do. I made sure I was rolling fast enough so he could not read the name on the side of the truck...
I did slow down to 40mph, I mean this scale is on the interstate, and there is a minimum speed limit of 40..
My main point was I didn't know if I was supposed to stop/pause at each axle, guess not. No one came chasing me down, the light never went red.
On a different note... I should have bought a lottery ticket yesterday. There was a DOT "Party" set up at the mixing strip, just on the other side of the US-50/US-77 Roundabout at Florence, KS. I made it by them 2x without getting waved in. No signs saying truckers must stop or anything.
If that wasn't enough, had severe T-storms/warnings as I'm about 3 miles out from the yard. These storms had a history of producing baseball size hail. I was worried about my pickup getting beat up. Made it home, no mean nasty hail....Pmracing Thanks this. -
Keep moving as long as the light stays green. I've had it all, most you just keep moving, but I've had them stop each set of axles on the scale and I even had one time that they didn't get a good weight so they apologized and asked me to pull around and come back on the scale again. (My weight was legal, but really close.)
