Weird , sounds like he passed out . Being stopped though , seems he would have been in park. I hope the Cop and the Driver are OK. How does one roll with two flat tires? Downhill I would imagine. Life is strange, truth is stranger than fiction.

I think park just disables the transmission, not sets the brakes. Gravity gets a vote.

That would be like neutral in a car. I have always felt N was good for push starting if it was necessary, or going downhill .. LOL Otherwise is not the best gear.

To be honest. I can't remember if my Freightliner automatic trucks even had a Park in the transmission. It may have just been Forward, Reverse, Neutral. I drove them 5 years ago. My last truck was a KW with 13-speed manual.

I was told never use neutral because if you get rear ended you will go on to hit others , whereas if you are in park your not going to go very far. However that was not about Trucks. Seeing as how 4 wheelers are the ones running into you there may be less of an impact being in neutral. I still feel to get a drivers license class C , more education is needed just to be able to drive a regular four wheel vehicle. 4 wheelers are the main problem out there on the highway, freeway, city, etc. 4 wheelers need to be taught a whole lot more about safety driving around Trucks with trailers, and each other , and when the 4 wheeler acts with unsafe ways, take their privilege of driving away until they have learned better. If a 4 wheeler is a repeat offender against safety , he needs to have his privilege's revoked permanently. If they won't be safe to save their own lives then just maybe stiffer penalties will force them. If neither help get them off of the roads.
In the USA , more crashes, ending in fatalities happen on Saturday and Holidays the days when YOU the Truck Driver are not on the road. There are less Trucks on the road on the worst and most dangerous driving days. You are the picked on , even though decades of research have proven you make the driving experience safer for the whole country. Why? I think we all know the answer to that.
