Some years back we were thinking about those CDL's and the value of them then. I don't recall the exact mindset but at some point once we understood from the state that we can always "Retread back" to that level provided everything else is met due to previous "Grandfathering" that we were on it would not be difficult within reason. We decided that it would be good just to have basic licenses and not worry about say a nuclear destruction of DC. We would prefer not to be involved in that even though we both have family that would be in range of the blast. Lots of family. Frankly they had a good run, but they have to make do living there. It really does not bother us.

Now picture this. Get orders to take a reefer of high dollar medicine to Mount Weather WVa and deliver same. There would be people who are in exodus from DC by then and see us as a highvalue food truck with our reefer unit or even better drugs.

No. Not without arms and weapons. Not the little popguns but the long arms.

Crowds in a mind of it's own driven by high emotions is very dangerous to those who are not displaying the same current mindset and behavior to a mob. They would be torn apart. There is no rhyme or reason to such things.

If the sickness or whatever it is comes to us then we will cross that bridge when we get to it. Otherwise we are determined to carry on with the way we do things like we have always done without fear.

I've had a certain degree of schadenfreude about this.

Being a "poor dumb trucker" it seems to be infecting the educated elites for now.

First it was these people that travel to China (a country that hates us, pollutes, steals our manufacturing, and manipulates currency,) on a regular basis. I went to Canada twice.

    Then it affected air travelers.
("Oh Muffy, it's so nice to avoid that 'flyover country'!")

And now it's hitting coastal cities.

Oddly enough, although I usually work NY, I was stranded on a layover in Wisconsin (because I told my dispatcher if I had a delivery on Friday I'd never get a same day reload!) which wasn't very high on coronavirus hotspots (excluding Chicago)
And because I had multiple stops on the return load I meandered through rural Ohio for 2 days that seemed a million miles away from the issue (plus no tv and intermittent radio stations, so I wasn't subjected to 24/7 MSM panic.)

But some of my friends are more conspiratorial about the virus (bio weapon, Chinese disinformation, etc.) and are going stage 3 prepper.

Meanwhile I'm wondering how many shipping containers that left Asia six months ago are just now being opened at warehouses all across the country. What boxes the last guy to go through the salad bar at the iron skillet might have touched while unloading, and how completely unprepared this government would be if the pandemic traveled via truck vs airline.

The media has really got this going over the top. People are buying all the TP they can get. It could get bad but more people die in traffic accident so far and people accept that as normal. 88 people will die in traffic accident today and you still drive down the road.

That information is not correct. The mortality rate of influenza is less than 1%. The mortality rate of COVID19 (Corona virus) is about 3.4%. It's about 20 times as deadly.

Both statistics, like most don't tell the whole story.
The mortality rate for COVID19 for someone from rural China, 65 years old, lifetime smoker with little or no access to modern healthcare facilities is probably 80%. Move him to major city in China with overwhelming pollution causing chronic respiratory problems and it probably as bad.
The mortality rate for a 40 year old in Columbus OH in apparent good health, never a smoker and no bad environmental conditions, the mortality rate is probably near zero.
But detailed analysis like this is not sound bite friendly, and given the attention span in this small screen smart phone, post newspaper era, misinterpretation reigns supreme. Let alone those with an agenda.
