What companies does the forum in general seem to approve of? especially with respect to inexperienced drivers.
Companies I am considering so far:
Schneider, Roehl, Averitt
If it helps, I am 24 with no CDL or experience.
Also, if I went with one of the "good" companies, do you think it would be ok to go to their training school instead of a private school even if I had to sign a year contract? I ask because I will need the year experience anyway so I might as well do it with a good company and get free training right?
Also, anyone know how to get the grant for CDL school in Florida? So far, I can only find this info but one of the schools on the list had no idea about it.
I found a link for it but I can't post it until my post count reaches 20
Co's generally accepted as "good"?

We now take students over here at Tyson Foods Private Fleet. I just recently started 3 months ago after resigning from my former company. So far, all has been good although I came in with 2 yrs exp. The company does not advertise and does not operate like a trucking company. If you don't mind the title "Protien Distributor" it's not a bad outfit. It is a reefer company so expect long layovers and 4am deliveries but you do get miles. Most loads going between plant to plant or Walmart Distribution. The pay is pretty strong too. Unlike a lot of the "Training companies" the bennies are great and dispatch actually treats you and talks to you as an adult. Hope this helps and if you need more questions answered I'll be happy to respond.

i will keep them in mind. thanks

Of the 3 choices you are considering, i would have to choose Roehl. They have so many different work schedules that finding one to work what you want to do is easier. besides there drivers seem happier. seems to me sni is on a down hill slide at this time and averitt has a dress code that i personally don't like. i did some local work with them and they expect drivers to be clean shaven with only a mustache allowed.
company training is not a bad idea. heck you need to stay with a company for the first year anyways. but getting it on your own is more freedom for you and your choices.
about the grant go to the local college and ask about grants there. they will point you in the right direction and they might have a cdl class that runs out of there. -
i am clean shaven so i dont mind that
i wish i could post the link about the grants but i just cant. it says i should go through the financial aid office of the truck school. there are no colleges here that have a truck school
those are not the only schools i would consider. this is just the list i have so far. this thread's purpose is to get more names to add to the list. i do appreciate you saying roehl > sni
i have only been researchign this a few days. right now im deciding whether to go back to school for accounting degree or to do trucking. i just dont know how i will pay for school -
How much longer do you have left to get your degree? -
i already have one in finance. not finding the type of job i want without experience so im thinking about going back to school for accounting bc they are in need so much that you can get hired without experience and it would give me the opp to get an internship or co op or something.
