My mechanic would ballpark it around 5 grand out the door. You always end up doing other stuff while the engines out of the way.

I am selling the existing engine. It runs great and always has. I had it tuned by Rebel 127 and it gets 7 mpg and puts over 500 hp to the ground. But it is a 1995 engine and does not qualify for a DPF retrofit. So I need to put in a newer engine which does qualify for a DPF. If it costs too much to swap engines I will sell this truck and get one that I can retrofit a DPF on. Unfortunately, I live in Calif and am in a position of driving my car to the state line in Blythe and then book loads out of Arizona. Loads leaving my area move for much more than Arizona loads so the retrofit pays for itself pretty fast. I have resisted this DPF idea, but at this point it seems the only reasonable option, since I cannot just move out of Calif though I would like to. They are doing bad things to non compliant trucks here now and I can't ignore this anymore.

They call it an inframe because the engine does not come out. If you need a new crank shaft the engine has to come out. A basic inframe is just piston liners, pistons, bearings for crank shaft and seals. For a Detroit Series 60 it's the cheapest kit out there around $2,100 to $2,500.

There's a shop near the Petro down in El Paso that will do an inframe for around $8,000. I've watched them. They are normally doing 4 at once. It's a Mexican shop. They do this all day long one after another.

This is your basic inframe. You can do all the other stuff when you feel like it if needed and are tight on money. The head can come off later and rebuilt and stuff like that.

Most on here will have your inframe costing you $147,000 before your done.

The very first thing they do is take off the oil pan and unbolt the crank bearings. That way they can look at half the bearing and half the crank to see if it's toast. If so then the engine has to come out to do the job.

If your wondering. When they take the head off and the crank bearings they can push the pistons up through the engine to take out. Same with the cylinder linings.

The cylinder sleeves are pulled with a sleeve puller. A platinum cater pillar inframe. With head oil pump p, injectors, turbo's, oil cooler , new vva assemblies, new head bolts, etc, bearings pistons , etc etc, waterpump will run ya 25 to 28k with 4 year unlimited mileage warranty

Is this an Electronic engine ? If so, I can give you a contact number that will probably help you on keeping that engine. They do retrofits and are located in Lancaster, Ca., I had mine done there.
CARB office personal are pencil pushers and only go by the book. A good reliable retrofit shop will give you the STRAIGHT 411. CARB only wants you to comply and long as you have the retrofit on, you will be OKAY to go.
Did it not qualify due to you letting the due date for that particular year pass you by ? If so, there are loop holes that might help you out.

Series 60 engine were the first electronic engines, introduced in 1987. They never were mechanical.

This is a bit off topic but has anyone done an inframe there selfs?
Also, can you remove the motor with a forklift?

You should be able to. It weighs 2,640, and most forklifts should lift that much.

You can do it yourself. An inframe does not require the engine to come out. You will need a company to come to your truck. After the cylinder sleeves are installed they need to be ground flat at the top so they are level with the block. If not done the head will leak or crack when installed.
