If the engine was 1994-1995, it is currently legal but is not eligible for a retrofit. It is absurd, because 1992-1997 12.7's all met the same emissions standards from the factory (and 1996 engines are eligible for retrofit).

But, unless you have some political clout, I wouldn't expect CARB to make an exception.

I've never heard of that. Usually you use shims in the counterbore under the liner flange to adjust your liner height so that it protrudes a couple thousandths of an inch so it seals to the head gasket correctly.

I didn't know that either but they have a special truck with a lift and a machine that does it on site. I watched. Pretty cool. No shims. The machine gets it perfect.

Where are they doing these bad things you speak of? I'm there every week rolling around LA, and I don't see any CARB people.
I see plenty of trucks just as old as mine running around-most in very sad condition.
Most are pulling cans, so I'm guessing they pick these up in a yard somewhere in LA bc I know they are not allowed in the port.

I talked to Ironman and they confirmed that a 1995 engine is not eligible for a DPF retro. It must be a 96 or newer engine. You and I know there is no difference in the engines, but just the electronics. I asked if I could just update from DDEC3 to DDEC 4 in the ECM but of course the answer is no. I would like the contact number though, it never hurts to get a 2nd opinion and a loophole might be available.
The date didn't pass me by, I sold the truck and got out of the business for a year. I ended up buying my same truck back a few months ago. I did deactivate my MC# during that time. My plan was to drive over to AZ and start trucking from there. I don't think that is a good way to do it since my best paying loads leave from Fontana or Ontario. So the filter really pays for itself.

They just built a new scale at the Nevada border mainly so the few CARB police can stop older trucks that cross into the state. This is done at the Banning scale also. There is 1 other main scale in Northern Calif. they have the CARB police there much of the time. They are ramping up the efforts now that all older trucks are officially non compliant. They are fining small companies with very large fines. It is only comforting that we see non compliant trucks running until YOU and I are the ones pulled in and cited. They cancel your truck registration so you cannot legally move your truck until the fines are paid. Ironman is one of the main DPF retrofit companies and they keep tabs on what is being done. If you have not called them or CARB yourself don't rely on what you think is going on. The fines are too great.

Don't see the CARB guys in Banning on Wednesdays between 4 & 5 pm.

By the amount of non-compliant trucks I see over there, they are not doing their job very well!!

Your right because you passed the the due date when you should of been compliant. BUT, that year (95) was/is eligible for compliant if you know the right people. PM sent.

    areelius Thanks this.
