Well as I follow-up, I did purchase the trailer. They gave me $66K for my trailer which is fair based on today's auction at T&M. So $132K for a 2023 GD w/ TK S700 unit, Timpte side, disc brakes, scale and light package. So it has everything you could order besides being a spread.

I have no idea if I'm buying at the top of the market. I never would have thought my 389 I ordered last November for $195K ($205K with APU included) would cost $245K 12 months later, so I'm terrible at predicting the future. I do know trailer production will not increase in 2023 but with higher interest rates and sustained lower freight rates will there be any buyers?

So my buddy just ordered a 389 O/O speced...price was $249K and delivery will be in Q1 2023.

I just don't know where it ends...with the low rates and high equipment prices I'm beginning to think in 12 to 18 months the demand we had 12 months ago will be nothing compared to what will happen when the cycle rebounds. The brokers, shippers and manufacturers are running their customers/service providers out of business. Maybe it's wishful thinking but the current state is not sustainable for much longer.

What will be interesting is in 3 or 4 yrs time as the new trucks/trailers of 2020 thru 2022 are coming up on a trade cycle. Especially if it happens to fall on another big upswing in rates. Used prices will be very high again as there won’t be much inventory to choose from. Especially considering inflation is very real and these new equipment prices truly are crazy.

I fully agree, it sure seems like these high prices are sticking. It’s definitely creating a barrier of entry. All of this could be wishful thinking and I’m trying to find some light at the end of the tunnel.

I’m interested to see what the reefer rates are going to be as we are just a few weeks away from the holiday push. And January has been my best month the past 2 years. So hopefully the holiday push is there and it can make up for some the rainy days that are coming.
