My biggest expense is fuel. I spend 3000 - 4000 a month just on that. I run only the west coast so I have high fuel prices and lots of hills. The milage is off on the report and the net doesn't include a wage. These are my current numbers.

That's a similar effect to what I was getting when I used to run to West Coast from Midwest all year long. I was generating 200K-220 revenue on 130-140K miles and ended up with 80-90K before taxes. I did not have a truck payment... That high mileage will make the gross look decent but fuel and maintenance cost will be unforgiving, not to mention home time.
Another reflection to prospective owner operators:
The trap is that each individual settlement check looks good, sky better than a company driver weekly paycheck. If you have a stretch of a few weeks, if not months, without any extra repairs then you almost think that life is so good, thinking of all the good things you're gonna buy and better house and better car, even a boat maybe. Then eventually, the repairs, parts and tires catch up and all of a sudden a man has to spend $3K here, $1,575 there, then two weeks later another $855 here and $1,655 there ... and then you think...I am such a cheap sale here.Last edited: Nov 29, 2019
Rideandrepair, SL3406 and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
You are definitely right about the maintenance and repairs. I have spent 13k already this year. I've had settlement checks as good as $6,000 for 2 weeks after expenses and I've had settlement checks as little as $200 after expenses due to taking time off. The least that I have ever took home in a month is 3500 and the most is 11000. It really just depends on how much time you take off.
But I don't run from the Midwest over I strictly run the I-5 corridor. There are some issues with running this Lane such as high fuel tax and prices in California and a 22 cent per mile road tax for Oregon. Just for clarification though I have only ran around 89,000 miles this year so that'll give you a better idea of what my per mile is.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I’m not even going to figure my year, till April. No point to it. It’s been a loss, I made it, so far, Lol You Guys keep crunching those numbers. Look at them 5 different ways, get 5 different results. Lol. Hopefully next yr will be a better one for all of Us. Cheers

Thanks. From your truck payment, am guessing you have a newer truck but still spending so much on maintenance.
-
Last year I only spent 7.5k on repairs and maintenance. This year the truck hit the 325 to 400 k mark and there were some major repairs. It's a 2016 Pete 579.
