I am scheduled for March 30 and have got a headache from all my research. Millis is the best that I have seen. I did ask the question "what about people who do not pass? Are people just let go so that you can just get the money(in so many words)". Ans: "We train you to drive our trucks, not to fail". Also asked if CDL is held for two years so that if you leave, you have to retrain....ans was no.
Also ask yourselves if people will stop drinking beer? Be part of solution-not problem. I do not drink, but I am from a family that was in glass business and know that glass packaging is sometimes the only way a product can be good/effective due to obsorbion in other packages.....so glass AND cans are the only package for alot of products. Businesss is business...if we don't haul glass, we haul other cargo. Why do you think the trucking business would be different than any other? We are paid to do a job....if not then we are a liability for any company. Take the good and bad and make use more of the good. I would think that anybody that is in a better/more secure career would stay and not veture out...BE A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS Capiche?

No sarcasm intended but I find it interesting a Bible thumper would choose a career delivering beer bottles .
If you don't haul glass you haul other cargo ? Other carriers are already hauling that cargo , many at cheaper rates than what Millis is willing to accept . Haven't you seen the J.B. Hunt tractors pulling Budweiser trailers ? Freight is dropping off . Fleets are reducing their size . Thousands of experienced drivers are out of work . We can only advise . Those who disregard may regret it .

I see your point RickG, I guess all I can say is that we will see how Millis comes out.....I'm not their Financial advisor, just one of their drivers.

I have a lot of respect for Millis and their drivers . I hope things continue to go well for them but I sure wouldn't sign a contract to pay to work for them or anybody else .

Ok, Millis only halls budweiser out of GA. up north i have seen alot of JB Hunt trucks hauling budweiser trailers. The main company that Millis hauls for is Miller brewing. Millis does ALOT of business for them. The only real reason Millis hauls Bud in Ga. is because there brewery is almost across the road from the terminal in Cartersville, very convenient.

The right decision for one is not the right decision for another. Living where I live there are no driving schools within driving distance. I understand company driving may not be the best way to go, but I bet they are a lot of drivers, new and old, that were trained by a company and had to sign a contract. Sometimes you just take a chance, and now is that time for me. Plant closed down putting over 400 people out of a job, and this small town is not a hotbed for job opportunities. Stay safe and Happy New Year..

p.s. If this decision bites me in the #####, I will let everyone know.

Rick...that is a good question. I used to be a paramedic and took patients to the hospital that were sick and injured but was not sick myself. You know the ad "drink responsibly". I am NOT a prude....it says in the bible that we can drink "wine" but not in excess. My point is that Millis seems to be the best carrier to work for during this economical time and that beer is a renewable commodity and it is consumable on a regular basis....like food. Delivering glass beer bottles is hardly promoting alcoholism any more than delivering food promotes obesity.....we need to look at the company as a supplier. I am not going to check every load. I will be only driving the truck....not deciding who or how much beer is consumed. That is something for MADD to do. Again, we need to be a light in the darkness. If the freight is low. then we have decision to make, don't we? Let's ride out this season of insecurity, not succumb to it. I would rather be hauling glass bottles than to haul a luxury commodity.....BUT I will take any load if it will give me the miles.:biggrin_25525:
