New to the forum, posted in the good/bad trucking companies, but it probably makes sense to post here. Im looking to lease on with a carrier and want to try to compare apples with apples. What are other people paying to get a trailer thru the company? Are most % of LH or a rental fee?
Im looking to get a dry van.
Cost to get trailer thru carrier.

Buying (leasing) thru a carrier means you are up to their mercy until the truck is paid off,,your name will never appear on a title until it is paid off,,Most trucks gotten thru a carrier are also low HP and most you are fleet spec'd and you can not turn up the HP,, Might be a way to get going but generally companies do lease purchase deals because it is cheaper than owning a truck and hiring a driver,,also a way for the carrier to lock a driver into hauling for them longer term and for a low rate, do your self a favor,,save your money usually 10-15% down pmt then order a truck spec'd the way you want it then either lease to a company or get your own authority finding shippers that will load you direct..Also before you buy your first truck meet with a good CPA and discuss weather you will be a subchapter S, C corpor an LLC, and take a business class or two at a local community college,, no matter how great a driver you are being a good businessman is most important for a new truck owner,,

ive got my truck, im looking at getting my trailer thru the company. Ive seen some charge a weekly rate and others that lower your pay percentage. I just wanted to see what other people were paying.

Mercer has, or at least had, good deals on dry vans. Make payments for 3 years on a brand new one then get the title as I recall for what looked like their cost, or at least close to it, as they didn't appear to be using that for an profit center like most carriers. Can't remember the exact number. Would be best to call them and inquire.

I have paid 8% of gross, or 175$ per wk. for new trailer a year ago, a older van should be more like 90 /110 per wk.
