your missing a few things..And yes with these assumptions of paying yourself only $1,000 per week, Yeah that looks close..Get that truck n trailer PAID off.......You'll sleep better.
There are a few dozen OTHER yearly expenses (IFTA,UCR,Corp taxes,health ins,workers comp or occ/acc etc)
To look Good..Try to average at LEAST $1.90 p/m for ALL miles for the year,you'll sleep a bit better....Get some experience then you can average $2.20-$2.50 per mile ALL MILESblacklabel and SheepDog Thank this. -
I knew about most of that but was pretty sure most was a couple hundred dollars each. Pull from Maintenance fund? I didn't say I would pull for $1.50 just trying to figure close cost to move.

I prefer to break things down more into monthly payments rather than fixing everything to a 'per mile' basis ...
My 'per mile' costs are calculated only to when the truck moves, so basicly I have only fuel, tires, maintenance ... all else, including my own pay, I use as a monthly set amount, because that is what they are ...icsheeple Thanks this. -
I've always heard that 20/30% minimum on top of cost would net you a good year.
I thought that's kinda what I did for everything but fuel and maintenance, no?
And if you never figure all that to per mile, how do you get your cost of operation? -
You can't get your RPM without doing the numbers the right way, of course you can guesstimate but, that could be off by $1000's a year. Get a good spreadsheet or software program and break everything down to $PM. Even if your truck doesn't move, it changes all your numbers...ie cost and revenue. Just my .02cents

Monthly expenses:
my pay: 6,000
insurance 1,000
trailer payment 1,050
other misc expenses, includes quarterly ifta (I always pay in), 2290, NY HUT, OR/NM/KY miles, plates, everything else: 1,500
total: ~9500
So more or less, as long as I have a good 10 grand anyway after my direct on road expenses, I am good ... it is usually pretty easy to meet this target in the first 18-21 days of the month ... some months I drive a lot more, I leave the money in the company and call it money for a future truck, or at the end of the year I give myself a nice bonus ... running like this leaves me about 1200 per week of spending money after all taxes ...
This system works well for me because I hate running the same lanes for the entire year. Through summer I will run from Ontario to the east coast, NJ/NY/PA/MD/etc and back, the rates are higher but it is seasonal work and when the season dies I am ready to run somewhere else anyway. Come winter I do Ontario to western Canada, drop down into Wa state and load apples usually back to toronto or montreal. Not as much per mile but it is also steady work and I make about the same, only difference is the truck turns more miles. Also I don't have the toll costs that I pay on the east coast runs ...blacklabel Thanks this. -
Another thing I forgot, I don't see why you need to know your exact cost of operation per mile in order to count your pennies per mile profit ... I rather know what lanes pay what rates for what times of year and be able to decide what is a good load or a bad load based on what you have learned ...

Do you have your own trailer? if so where are those costs?
What about office supplies? Phone with data plan? Computer/printer/scanner? Load boards? E-fax account? stamps/envelopes?
Trucking supplies? ratchet straps? load bars? blankets? broom? chains?
Hotel & showers? Even if you always sleep in the truck, you'll be in the shop some nights...
Tolls?
Yearly expenses look low -- plates & HVUT alone will run $2500-$3000. On the other hand, your insurance looks high & your mpg looks low. On the whole, you're in the ballpark. Unless you've been tracking your numbers as a company driver, you probably won't do much better dialing in your numbers until you start running.SheepDog and blacklabel Thank this.
