Could us some help. I got my CDL on Jan. 20th. Spent about $4,300.00 to get it. Now I can't seem to get a job. Never been arrested. No accidents or moving violation in over 5 years. Never had DUI. Only once had license suspended, and that was for 30 days in 1985. I have been pre-hired twice. This last time I had been pre-hired for 3 weeks, before I got my CDL. I called after I got my CDL and talked to the recuiter. She went over all the information, and told me to call back on the same day to get a conformation number and a bus ticket. When I call back, she tells me that she had to give my application to a supervisor and that they denied it, so no job. What the hell?
The other thing is that no one will tell me why my application is denied. They tell me by law they don't have to tell.
If anyone has any suggestions, I could use them. How would I got about finding out why my application is approved by the recuiter only to be denied by the supervisor? This has happened more than once.
Thank to all who answer.
Could use some help

hey mike, sorry that has happened to you. but you have to understand the country right now, im starting to feel like a broken record repeating this over and over again. every company is able to pick and choose who they want to hire. they are right when they tell you that by law they dont have to let you no why they made that dis. it does suck, cause they may have a reason thats keeping you from getting on at every other place, they should tell you why, so you no what you need to " fix " on your application.
you listed some pretty decent companies, but you didnt list the 2 worse.
-- Swift
-- Werner
i no they are low-blows, but they could be a start for right now, if you apply to one of them, and get rolling, and you stay with either one for 6 months, with any hope the economy will be in better shape and the above listed companies could be better to get in with,
this is something you could consider,
also, give watkins and shepard a call and talk to them.
it couldnt hurt.
what truck driving school did you go too?? i no you spent 4,300 on it, but the school may not have been an approved school for some companies.
trust me. i spent OVER $10,000 on school and got turned down cause my school was not approved by some companies.
well, heres a start for you.
best of luck to you. -
MIKE I spent a lot more than that. I got my cdl last March & still no job. Getting it turned out to be a very expensive mistake. You may have to do something else. I was a prehire at Werner & they withdrew it. A few months later tried again, seem to be blaclisted & no resone given. I think it was because of a marijuana conviction 41 years ago. Again would not say the reason. A few others had an initial interest. Was told to pack my bags & come. Then a call saying changed their minds, no reason. Another said I needed the school certificate. Paid more money & got it, nothing. One said youv'e been out of school awhile. You'll have to go to our school (Stevens). OK until I find out they want $6,000 for that! Then I had health problems. Sent applications to internet recruiters like you did one replied & said I looked good. Filled out the application. Tried 2 diffent phone #s, multiple times. The mailbox was full evry time. E-mailed about it & no reply. I have been out of work a very long time. Next month it will be year since I got my license. Even took a refresher course. All of it a waste of money. I have seen ads but they don't want you if you have a license already. They want you to go to their school & of course it isn't free. I wish I had known about this site before I ever started. Right now I don't see any jobs of any kind to apply for & when I do nothing happens. Another thing they don't like you if you have employment gaps like I do (quote "you might be a terrorist !". Do you? We both need entry level jobs & they all want experience or somethig else & it is getting worse. Illegals make it worse! Actual unemployment is 20% , not the official 10% or less. I can officially retire at 62, thats in Octiber 2009. Well good luck!

Got no response from swift, got turned down by warner. It all sucks. I went to one of those 3 week CDL mill schools. Just made wrong decision. I may have a new opportunity with a trucking company starting to emerge. Will keep all posted.
Thanks to all who responded. It is tough out there right now, and our moronic government leaders have no idea what they are doing. -
well who is this new company??

Millis Transfer, Inc. They will give me a job, but I have to go through their school first. Not great, but I it is the only way I can get a job, I'm ready. They have a school not far from me.
