So, I am new here, and am new to HotShot as well. I have worked for a couple companies doing local deliveries with parts/supplies, etc. I enjoy driving, I enjoy the open road. I have done all the research on non-cdl hotshot as far as rules/restrictions/etc. go. And before anyone adds, yes, I DO plan on going to CDL, HD truck setup after my first year is over. I just want to get my feet wet here. With that being said... my few questions though are =>
1. With insurance, when you buy commercial insurance, which I plan on doing the standard 750k, do you have to have the Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury and Property Damage match the Liability? So for example, if I set the Liability to 750k, but do the uninsured at 100k per incident, is that acceptable to brokers and shippers? Or will I get rejected off of that? Also, does anyone know of a company other than Progressive that accepts new authorities? Can't find any, I'm located in Virginia.
2. With non-cdl, and you're running interstate, staying under 26k lbs obviously, do you have to stop at weight stations? AND do you still keep a drivers log/drive time book? I have not gotten a solid answer on that as I have found yes and no answers on both sides.
3. Lastly, as far as starting out... is it true that because of being new that brokers/shippers will be very hesitant to give you loads? It's kind of like the work experience dilemma... how are you supposed to have experience if you can't get any to begin with? That's my biggest fear, is that I get everything setup, go to try and start running, and then get rejected because I'm new.
Thank you all for your time and any help would be greatly appreciated!

So the term “vehicles” just means the power unit correct? So if my total rig, trailer and load is under 26k I’m clear of that, or no?

Under 26k truck, trailer, load and GCVWR you just don't need a cdl in most stated.Mojo1960, Lite bug and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
