    Hi guys!

I have a couple of questions for all you fellow drivers out there just to see if I'm one of the few in this situation. My company truck is governed at 62MPH.. Would you say this is a low or high governed speed for most company trucks? I don't have an issue driving 62 at all. The only part of the governor I don't like is that I can't efficiently pass other slow moving vehicles, especially if they are going 60 or 61. It just takes way too long and that tends to create a huge line of pissed off 4-wheelers... I also only drive in Michigan right now, and the truck speed limit is only 60 MPH, so again, 62 is not a big deal. But when I turn 21 and start driving regional, I know there are states out there, especially Wisconsin, where we are aloud to drive 65, but can't, because our trucks are governed lower than that. My company is aware of that and they still set all trucks to 62, even the OTR guys. Kind of irritating, but whatever, I am never in a hurry to get anywhere. Plus since I am still pretty new to driving on interstates and in heavy traffic, 62 is about my max comfort speed at this current point in time.

Second, my company truck has a forward and rear-facing camera up in the window. Now, I know for a fact mine doesn't work (lol), but even if it did, it doesn't really bother me. I've read that some companies have workers who actually watch each and every truck's video tape to see how a driver is doing. I know that my company doesn't watch them unless our trucks get in accidents, or somebody reported that the driver was doing something unsafe. How many of you guys have cameras in your trucks and what are your thoughts on them? Now, I would mind them if they did have people who watched them. That would bother the hell out of me. But since I know they don't, I don't really mind them.

Just thought I'd start this thread for some friendly conversation over some things I've been wondering since I've been out on the road. Thanks for reading and participating in the conversation in advance, everybody!

Some companies with driver facing cameras have 3rd party monitors. If they see something they think the company should be aware of they snitch on the drivers.
62 mph in Michigan may keep you from getting a ticket.
There's currently a lawsuit by www.OOIDA.com against a Michigan state trooper that pulls trucks over on the interstate and puts them out of service for the least little thing. He then call his buddy that owns a towing company to come tow the truck. Probably cost you at least a couple thousand dollars to get the truck back. This trooper claims he's a former owner-operator that knows all the tricks truckers pull.

62mph is pretty much normal for most the mega carriers starter companies are governed that and prime I think is 58.once you go regional you'll still have to deal with the slow trucks.that is here to stay unless you drive for an owner operator or small company but the megas no.

It's mainly about fuel savings; increasing the mpg.
I heard a rumor Uber is requiring driver facing cameras and governed cars to 55 mph. Also requiring another driver facing camera mounted under the steering wheel facing the drivers seat.

if you're using your own car why would uber require governed?no way would I drive for a company controling my own vehicle. What about off duty drivers shouldn't be forced to drive 55 and the speed limit is 75 in some states.

I made up that story just to rile you up. Figured you'd have to buy a new wardrobe to replace the mini-skirts.

Driving 62 in TX is dangerous. It would seem that law makers who coddle the 'Safety' phrase would realize that allowing trucks to run so slow creates more of a hazard to the general public than it prevents. The most likely time for a truck-car collision is when they are near each other. Allowing trucks to creep along well below the posted speed ensures that a lot of unneeded proximity chances arise between the 2. About every ###### car on the road will be beside you sooner or later.

Getting tailgated at 62 in 70/75, headlights in your eyes all night long, always someone on one side or the other of you... it makes the job more fatiguing than it should be.

And I won't even get started on the cameras. There's never been a convincing argument for driver-facing cameras, only the people trying to defend them. That should say it all.
