I start orientation next week in Phoenix and have a couple questions about items to pack for when I'm out with the trainer.

Sheets or sleeping bag? I bought sheets cause I didn't know how warm the truck will be this time of year and didn't want to be sweating up a storm in a sleeping bag while trying to sleep. If it'll fit, I'm planning on bringing a blanket if we get into cold weather. For me, the cooler I am, the better I sleep.

Coveralls? I'll be doing flatbed and have heard the tarps can be pretty dirty. Do any other flatbedders wear or recommend getting coveralls? I went shopping for them today but the store didn't have the right size.

Any other 'must haves' aside from the usual clothing and toiletry items?

Definitely get coveralls. I have destroyed quite a few pairs of jeans while tarping. Get a good pair of gloves and baby wipes. Baby wipes are good for cleansing up. Bring small bottles of shampoo and body wash.

The main thing is don't overpack.Don't think you wanna be lugging around too much.I woul'nt bring sheets. When the trainer is driving you must sleep on the bottom bunk.I think a sleeping bag would work.Bring a towel incase you take a shower at the terminal and they don't provide towels.

I used an oversize sleeping bag; not large or extra large, but oversize.
Wear steel toe boots; protects the foot and ankles.
Work gloves. I usually bought a package at Lowes or Home Depot.
Sun glasses for driving. Over a period of time the sun will do some serious damage to the eyes.

coveralls are a good idea, however I just have 4 bright orange tshirts and some pants I wear strictly for work. I load/unload in them, then change into regular clothes. Helps keep my clothes clean and keep from getting torn. also dont have to wear a vest ;)

Trainer should provide sheets, but I'd still say bring one, since you will need it for your truck when you get assigned it. I cant stand heat, so I'd just bring a light blanket. Don't bother with tools and such, you can get those when you get sent home after completing orientation.

Flashlight. Never know what you can't see walking around a parking lot.

    Going to Phoenix for orientation.

Thank you for all of the replies and suggestions. I'm going to give the sheets a try since that's what I have....can always buy a sleeping bag later if needed. I will be getting baby wipes along with a few other things from Walmart tomorrow. I've ordered steel toed boots but I won't have them for phase 1 or 2....bringing a pair of regular work boots. I have a new flashlight (the LED Maglites are super bright). I won't be able to get coveralls where I live because the two stores open too late. Anyone know of a place in the area of the Phx terminal that sells coveralls?

    Thanks
