hey, i have an old midland radio from around ...1976 or so.... the uniden made ones.... Are these any good?
Also, i know a car shouldn't be able to reach as far as the truck radios... [or should they] ... how far should a cars radio reach? with a Wilson antenna and something like the old midland/uniden radio?

Depends on where your antenna is mounted, mine is mounted smack in the middle of the roof and I'll outtalk any truck out there. 16 miles to my job and I can talk to my base anytime I like and tons of truckers hear me that far but they can't talk back that far and I know these guys because I set their rigs up. -
Ha ha, you've got the same perception i do, personally i think its all about the antenna.... but i heard some people saying simply upgrading their radios [still legal power] enhanced their distance a lot

so when you set up your radio what'd ya do... you think its your "bagel" antenna? or something else you did. Cuz im thinking about using my little vintage radio with 18' coax cable and a wilson silver load fgt 4' [1000w] top loaded antenna .... how do you think that'll do ... any speculation?

The bagel antenna is a joke and the guy pictured there with it is a crook in ny state.
By saying I set up their rigs means I installed with what they brought with them, truckers no matter what you tell alot of them they still believe alot of the snakeoil sales pitches out on the road today.
The Predator 10-k is the most versitile antenna on the market today and you can get replacement parts for them if you make an ooooopsies
