Well I don't know why Schneider told you that about their dedicated accounts. I got hired with no experience driving truck. Heck, my truck was brought up and parked...waited for me to finish my training, it sat for like 3 weeks for me to finish and start my job running this dedicated account. Another guy I trained with also got hired onto the same account and actually brings me my freight each day.
I don't see what the problem is with the Quallcomms being locked while the truck is rolling. I've seen lots of incredibly stupid drivers typing or reading their messages while driving down the road...that scares me.
Lots of companies optimize fuel stops. Schneider does the same thing, but I don't know if they tell you how much to fuel. Basically you tell the computer how much fuel you have left and it will give you a route and fuel suggestion telling you where to get fuel. IE, if you are in Utah with a quarter tank of fuel left, they might want you to fuel up in WY where it is a few cents cheaper or less tax or something like that. of course that doesn't apply to me as I get fuel at one of two pilots on my route.
Covenant X Werner Very tough decision

Over a month has gone... Schneider refused my application cause they are not hiring in Georgia. I went back to school and got a 40 hr refresher. Applied to TA (Transport America), Werner and Covenant. TA doesn't have any opening on Southeast Regional. Werner accepted my application, didn't even check my self-employment or anything else and said I can schedule orientation right away. I haven't heard from Covenant yet. There are some "good" training co's that will not train as a team (so they say), but then I would have to run solo, 48 states. pulling refer, right after one month of training, which I don't want. I would like to stay in training a little longer or team for the first months. But since I don't have a teammate, I would have no option but run solo. Therefore, I am back to my tough decision, this is, if Covenant accepts me, it will be either one or the other. Now I am getting sick to the stomach with anxiety... I reckon these co's don't have good reputation. I hear people saying they don't pay well, Werner trainers are inexperienced, lousy, unfair, Covenant doesn't pay well either, etc, etc. But there's no guarantee of anything, anywhere (specially for a newbie), or is there? It will depend on my attitude, and what I make of the experience, right? Gosh, I would like to get a good trainer and be able to stay in the same co. for at least 6 months...

have you looked into prime? They have a pretty lengthy training period, and its team diving...There are a few negative comments on here about them, but not as many as werner and covenant..Just dont do their lease.....

good just dont go for werner, they make you go out with a trainer (experience d or not) and run as a team for 300 and some odd hours at 300 bucks a week
if you get on a dedicated this could take AND I AM NOT KIDDING 6 months
i currently work for them, they have NO DRIVER HELP if you call in for any kind of help you are always on hold, its aweful, the automatic log is not bad for me as i am a team driver but i have met people who run out of hours at a pickup or drop and cant go anywhere to shower and eat,
they promise miles but trust me, you wont get them, when i joined i watched IN 3 DAYS 30 people quit, i started counting,
this company has some middle management issues i guess cuase they fired all there support staff
(btw i also had a REAL emergency, hour and a half on hold before they took it, i am not kidding)
too bad schnieder wouldnt take ya, they are a great company if ya can ever get in -
IF my only choice was between Covenant and Werner I would opt out of driving OTR. Sorry, but thats how bad they are.

Schneider also has issues with their phone system taking a long time and it was a question posted in their recent monthly newsletter. They at least acknowledge the problem and are working on resolving it. Its just a pain when I have to call and wait on hold for a long time using up my cell phone minutes. Im not sure which is faster, quallcomm or phone.
I dunno, lol sometimes it doesnt make sense either. last week i went out to the truck which had no coolant at all in the res...sent in a macro and they still wanted me to drive the truck coolantless to the shop. Well that wasted about an hour of my time when I could have done that anyways but my mechanic at the account office told me to get someone to come out there since I had no coolant. Then a few days before, they sent me to a Cat dealer to get the truck worked on for its detroit coolant issue...needless to say, that didnt work out. -
I hear you all and thank you for your input. As I could not live with this indecision any longer, I called Werner today and scheduled my orientation. At least Werner is really close to my home. Covenant is 2 hrs away and they pair up 2 newbies for a minimum of 6 months. I hope to get a good trainer. I'm trying to find one before my orientation. I am nervous and anxious. There are companies that will take someone with only 4 months experience. So, pehaps after 4 months with Werner I move on to another co. Well, time will tell.
