I just found out that my husband's trainer has a CPAP machine without his company knowing. How dangerous is it to drive if you need one of these? Don't know about the regulations of driving with one.

Him using one is safer as he's getting the sleep he needs.

Some people can be responsible for themselves and not need a company to make them do it.

DO NOT worry about it, and tell hubby to SHUT UP about it.
No need to spread the word. You will find (actually hubby will), that there are things some do and wish NOT for it to get around. It opens up a can of worms so to speak.
Further, you (or hubby) really DO NOT KNOW if the company does not know. The trainer could have been tugging your hubby's chain.
Let it sit, quietly.DrtyDiesel, Leftlane101 and Rollover the Original Thank this. -
why would the company care? It really makes no difference. As long as he has it noted on his Dot Med longform, Which limits him to a 1 year card.
Some companies track it, most don't. My company only knows because I asked them to install an inverter so I can run my cpap. Pretty sure they have forgotten already. -
He's like a new man if he's wearing it. Nothing to worry about. It might be he has a two year medical card and he recently started using one. So he is just saving the cost of another physical and/or....
If he told his company right now, they would probably pull him off the road until he proves he is compliant through a respiratory therapist. Which he already is if he uses it 4 hours a night I think? It might be 70%? I'm sure he'll take care of it when the next physical comes around.
I did the same thing. You tell the company before hand they might pull you off the road for a month or even terminate you. Some trucking companies even have their own CPAP programs.
It's a new thing with the DOT and they are not sure how to handle it yet.general's wife Thanks this. -
Had not planned on saying anything, I just want to make sure my husband's safety isn't at risk. And not sure why he would say they don't know if they did. And I don't care if he breaks the rules, he is the one who will get in trouble. My concern is only for my husband. Thank you!skellr Thanks this.

All of us understand that point.
Not making waves goes a long way however.
Good luck to him (and you) -
your husbands safety is not at risk if he uses that machine while he drives, there are no illegal substances that are used. If anything it will help him stay awake while your husband sleeps. I am sure the company is aware he has it. Just like others have said if its not affecting safety let it lye...

I hope he's not using the machine while he drives !!!!!
DirtyBob Thanks this.
