Im not sure my self it could be one out of the 3. Im thinking urine, hair, or blood. Are u applying for a job? or u asking about a random testing?

The answer is in 49CFR part 40. It must be non-invasive of the human anatomy therefore a urine test. In addition to testing the urine for illegal substances it will also be tested for adulteration, that is if someone has taken other substances to mask/hide a positive test result............the actual test for adulteration is for nitrites in the urine....there is no reason to have a nitrite in urine and shouldn't be in it. Substances used to hide/mask a positive all have nitrites in them. It will be tested for specific gravity (everything on this earth weighs something and the weight can be determined by how much gravity pulls on this material). It will be tested for creatinine (a chemical in urine) level to see if someone has attempted to dilute the urine with another substance. It will be temperature tested to see if someone rather that you actually produced the specimen at the time of collection. Any of these results may/could be interpreted as positive. It will be sent via an overnight company to the testing facility. The motor carrier doesn't test the urine. The motor carrier merely pays for the urine collection and testing by the lab. How can there be horror stories Re. a particular motor carrier unless that carrier has a remarkably high amount of drivers who have tested positive because they ingested some type of illegal substance.
Before I retired from the USDOT we had received a copy of the test (sent to us for some humor by a lab) result of a 53 year old male that was pregnant. I have also seen test results that showed a temperature of as mush as 108 degrees which means the person would have been on their death bed (it was probably under the car heater & got too warm), and temperatures as low as 47 degrees (probably just left in a container in colder weather) meaning the urine did not come from that person at the time of collection. The test as you can see is very thorough.Last edited: Nov 4, 2008

The test is good test if it's done right. But lets face it there are collection people that just have no idea how to do the collection right.
psanderson Thanks this.
