I was expecting to get him all fired up about it but apparently he hasn't noticed it yet. He kind of "kicked me out" of the "I love Prime" thread (or whatever it's called) because I was in there making fun of their slow trucks.
Freebird135 Thanks this. -

I am only at prime for 6-7 weeks now and so far so good. As an O/O with my own authority I drive "DEERCRUSHER", an older Ashley tractor I bought. It is governed at 77 on cruise and 80 on the pedal. Most of the time I drive 55-60 for fuel mileage. Sometimes I got to "press hard" and having that speed helps. Thanks for looking out! -
I bet the high turnover mega-carriers have more "openings" than they have open trucks to fill. They've been in the business long enough to know that they need to plan ahead because of such high turnover. Even if all their trucks are full at any given moment, they know that 75 or so guys quit every week and by the time they get people through orientation, there will be a truck available for him.
When you go to orientation at a mega-fleet, like I did at Covenant in 2004, take a look at the size of the "class" in orientation. Unless the company is expanding it's operation, for every guy in orientation that week, that pretty much that's how many drivers quit in a typical week. -
We were with Covenant, too. They always SAY they're expanding... but it's awfully ironic when I was in a class of 75 in January 2008... when my wife came into the company in March 2008, there were two classes of 60... and about 50-60 empty trucks in live to get "detailed".
Yes, they said "detailed", like it meant cleaned or something. -

It seems like it would be easier to pay a better wage, and keep good drivers.
Some of these "megas" have had to pay out multi-million dollar settlements from accidents.
Not saying all accidents are caused by new drivers. Statistics do show that most accidents are caused by inexperience.Freebird135 Thanks this. -
In related news, CR England has cancelled its new recruiting video that had the Steve Windwood song "Roll with it" as the background music.
harleymanjax, jessegobrowns, I_HATE_MINIVANS and 1 other person Thank this. -
their turnover rate would be much lower if they paid a decent wage......they would have happier drivers and not have to spend all the time and money training new guys every week
