I think this is what happened with my father. He leased on with CRE about six-seven years ago. Not sure how it was back then, but he told me he was barely breaking $100 NET. I rode with him for a month, and I don't think he EVER stopped driving. He ran paper logs, so he was able to at least make SOME money.

Maybe significantly more GROSS income, but not net. If everything is going well, the IC may see about 10% more than a company driver running those same miles. Spend two days in the shop, and the IC has no paycheck that week.

So you get the right to turn down loads. Sitting idle is not too conducive to bringing in those big paychecks.

Same thing. You get to turn down offered loads.

    All free for company drivers.

    Again, free for company drivers.

I make money on every load I run...

MsJamie, I respect your position and think some companies resemble your extreme negative picture. Let me share a little more detail:
I've averaged 3,000+ miles/week for 2 1/2 years. If I turn a load down or dont' want to run that route, another opportunity is close behind. No real sitting in that 30 months, with Conway TL.

If I spend 2 days in a shop, I use my maintenance account and my settlement is not affected. I don't know why you would say that: 2 days in a shop and no paycheck? Maybe for some drivers, but I don't think those people last very long. You have to manage your business better than to survive and support your lifestyle.
I made $70K net income last year. Did you? In other words, I make more net income than you earn gross annual income. For me, that spells incentive. That, and the freedom of choice. Thanks for sharing.
