My brother in law was trained at their Mira Loma school and than went out with a phase 1 trainer for about 5 wks and than a phase 2 jerk for another 4 wks. It was bad enough that during those wks he hardly saw a check over $200 1 wk he got a whopping $69. The more important issue to me he didn't learn or should I say was taught anything at all. He quit at Christmas after being with England for a total of 12 wks. I am an owner operator at my company so I was able to bring him on to team drive with me for a year so he can make a descent living while getting experience. The things that jumped out at me when he first got on the truck was that he did not know the basics.
How to properly hookup the trailer
Did not understand how the landing gear works or the tandems
Did not understand how to axle weigh a load
The list was too long to get into. I know he is a smart guy in the 3 wks he has been on my trk you can believe he has learned these things cause I have been going over it and over it . And you know what if the training is emphasized they will learn it. This tells me that those England trainers just care abt running miles with those trainess for the money they do not care whether they are being taught anything. Oh 1 last thing he did not know how to do a a paperlog which I see why England doesn't care about that cause they are all on electronic. But just like I told him if you were to go to a company that uses paper you will look pretty dumb not knowing how to log., SHAME ON YOU ENGLAND TAKING THE TUITION FROM THESE GUYS NOT GIVING THEM DESCENT WAGES THE LEAST YOU SHOULD DO IS GIVE THEM THE TRAINING THEY PAY FOR.

In 12 weeks he couldn't figure out how to hook up a trailer or run landing gear? I watched a guy do it once when I was 8 years old while sitting in a car, its just not that hard to figure out.

    How about some self responsibility?

they should shut more then there school but almost all these schools teach is how to get that cdl nothing more
How do you teach anyone in a team operation when the trainer is in the bunk? you don't nor do they care they just want to say a student had x amount of training

If our tax`dollars didn't essentially pay for these programs - they would.

Without tax subsidies - these schools would fail to turn a profit, and would have to close.

As it stands, they only have to provide minimal training and employment of no specified length, to receive these funds.

So even if the driver quits in a short time, the money is still made.

Hey smart guy Luis what I was referring to was the high and low gear of the landing gear system. And when you are paying for an education it is not just his responsibility if he could not perform basic functions at an acceptable level he should not have been passed along. That is the problem of drivers not succeeding and getting frustrated cause they are not receiving the basic skill training we can't all be like you and learn how to drive a trk at 16. The rest of us were in high school.

You make a good point but has anybody ever heard of a CDL mill failing anyone ? As long as they don't fail to hand the money over they are good to go .

So am in high school barely know a few things. If you can teach him the ropes. So he can pass those England trucks. That's stuff they should have taught him. True he should not have been passed along but as long cr get's there cash they don't care. Sorry for coming as a smart guy. Rick has a very valid point they don't care.

    LOL.........
I don't know what your bro-in-laws deal was but when me and my wife went through the school in slc, we learned a great deal about the dos, donts and sop's that pertain to drivin a truck. Granted, our first phase one trainer wasn't worth a #### but the second one kicked ###. As far as phase two, we were trainer-less so we had to pretty much figure it out on our own. But before you go pointin the finger, its not like tryin to teach a monkey to fly the space shuttle. You know, there is a certain degree of common sence that plays a part here as well as a lot of things. If its too hard to figure out, then go work at subway smearin mayonnaise on sandwiches.
