Check into the Awards Program for Independent Contractors to reduce VMP from 14 cents to as low as 6 cents. There are requirements that need to be met in order to attain points that are then used to earn awards that can then be used to lower VMP. I believe that this can be accessed through the E-Tools section of the C.R. England website with your driver code.
It is my opinion that there is nobody in "support" of you. They simply don't care either way(my opinion). Get the info you need to be successful. If the first person from the corporate office has no help for you, hang up, make note of that person, call back and talk to somebody else. Repeat until you get what YOU want. If the shop can't get you in until a week from now, call another shop or talk to somebody else in that shop. Don't take no for an answer.
Did you receive a full copy of your lease agreement? I'm sure you did. Do you have the option to end the lease at the six month mark? If so, be sure to keep that as an option. Read the fine print. You might need to provide a 30 day written notice to do so. I believe that sending the notice over QualComm will suffice, but better to read the fine print on that. If I am correct then you will need to provide notice at the 5 month mark. I got this info from the lease department over the phone. Details, details, details!
How about driving 55 - 57 mph when you can reasonably do it? If you can't deliver early and get another load, and you have plenty of time to get there, and you aren't scrounging for hours, this could bring your mpg up into a range that makes the loss of those few miles every hour worthwhile. Just a thought.

It just amazes me that companies like England are able to find drivers to sign up for these programs that seem to have an overwhelming number of people failing.
I do not intend to pile on you,but apparently you signed up for this on your friends word.Should it not have been you that did your due diligence?
My suggestion was included in my "smart-aleck"....drive for A company that pays A decent wage.Benefits,less headache and stress and at least twice what your making now.

I LEFT a job making twice what I'm making because my wife was tired of driving and I couldn't run solo for the company since I didn't live in Atlanta or Charlotte. I listened to friends I've known for over 7 years, and they were simply wrong and uninformed. Won't make that mistake again, EVER.
On the buydown on the variable mileage charge, you CAN buy it down to .06 (from .14) through the awards program, provided you're not living under a bridge in a cardboard box by then. It takes a year and a half or so of perfect running to get to that award level.AfterShock Thanks this. -
What is the justification for the .14cpm charge?
I'm assuming its akin to the over miles charge found on an auto lease.But when you lease A truck,the whole idea is miles(money).Am I seeing A contradiction where there is none?AfterShock Thanks this. -
(a) It is for depreciation of the vehicle, and since we as lessees are charged this amount, we can write if off as a business cost (Yeah!) (this came from Horizon leasing)
(b) It is a charge to lessees to cover the company's cost of support personnel like your DM, payroll, shop, etc. (this came from the orientation instructor last week in Dallas while my wife was in her class)
(c) It is common to all leases. (this came from the instructor who gave my wife her road test).
That last one kills me. As a former auto business F&I manager, having disclosed thousands of leases to customers, I've NEVER disclosed a "variable mileage charge", which in this case, is like a mileage charge on a Penske rental truck.
The fact that you can buy it down to 6 cpm through awards for safety, on-time delivery, etc, proves that it's an in-house charge and is pure profit, has nothing to do with leasing a truck. Other companies that lease don't charge this, as far as I can see.AfterShock Thanks this. -
the breakdown is basicaly this...
EZ-Pass (tolls etc)
Veichle licences, permits etc etc
A small portion is commision to the DM and the broker gets a cut
also a charge for going over miles (wich they claim they don't do)
Plain and simple the .14cpm deduction is a load of crap I have the exact breakdown sheet somewhere (got it of some ####### at burns a couple years back) I called Horizon on it and they were very surprised I knew they were in fact charging for things they say "they pay for"

UPDATE:
Just checked my online settlement for 4/14 - $103.45.
My wife is getting $186 in mileage pay.
I was short on miles and lost 80 points out of the possible 400 I could make this month in the awards program. I only averaged 2296 miles per week this month, with 3 of those weeks "teaming" with a trainee.AfterShock Thanks this. -
com on people reall is leasing a truck from a company like england really worth it why not go right to frieghtliner or peterbuilt kenworth etc where there is no .14 cent variable milage better chance to buy the truck. ive done listen to yall and it really doesnt make any sense to the whole thing to me i wayed da good wit the bad and it isnt worth it to me when the milesw r not there to make a living
